Hurting the value of our TT?

I am torn in half as to whether to leave the table with four chairs in or replace them with a booth dinette. Right now our TT sleeps four, but we were able to squeeze one more person in while on vacation at the Outer Banks (we got back last Monday night). Oh my goodness. Never again will I do that. My husband wants to leave the table/chairs in. I prefer a booth dinette.

If I replace the table/chairs with the booth dinette, will that hurt the value of our TT if we ever decide to sell or trade it?

Any changes to the original floor plan will affect the resale value being that it is then... 'not factory built."

With that said, if the table/chairs vs the booth were a factory option, then I don't think it would matter much because the unit could have been factory built with either, depending on how it was ordered.

It depends on the buyer as well.
We've had both and way prefer the table/chairs.

In my opinion, you do what you want to do to YOUR!! TT . If the changes make it more usable for YOU!!! go for it. The value of the TT when you are going to sell or trade, is what it is. Its yours now, enjoy it!!

Why worry about trade in? Do what you want to make your lives easier. Me? I'd never go with a dinette. We love the table and chairs!

If we have extra people with us rather than putting the table down we put an air mattress on the floor in the kitchen next to the table-we have a front kitchen. Much easier that way. I would assume you could do that with yours.

This!!!

"Usage" value over "resale" value for me every time. The more you enjoy your time in the camper now is what it is all about and you will have more fun while you own it!!!

Didn't buy our Lexi to worry about "resale value". Bought it to have fun, travel, enjoy retirement.
If i loose a few bucks when/if we sell it, so what.
If the next buyer/looker dosen't like what I've done to it, tough poopie!!!
It's yours, do what you like to it to make it comfortable, and enjoy it for the reason you got it.

If you bought your unit brand new, you have already taken a 25%-30% hit in "resale" value. That is the least of my worries. Make the unit work for you, if you keep it more than a couple of years I doubt the changes you make will seriously affect the value.

Are you wanting a booth dinette so you can sleep an additional person? We use a blow up mattress in our kitchen area. We find the table and chairs so much more comfortable. But, as others have previously stated, go with your needs. If you don't make it comfortable for you to use you WILL need to think about resale value because you won't want to use it so often. If you make it so you like camping in it you will own it longer and not worry about resale as much.

If the workmanship is good and wood & fabric match the original décor, I doubt you would significantly impact the resale value. If it didn't match and looked liked an after-thought, it might impact the future value. Dinette vs table & chairs is really just a personal preference. Switching wouldn't make the trailer less functional. And, the added plus you would get is storage under the benches!

If it is a seamless factory looking job it won't change the value. Anything less and yes it will. That being said....the resale value is so poor that after a couple years it really won't matter.

One of my sons slept on the floor with extra padding in our room. It didn't bother him, but five of us in our TT, with baggage, is quite crowded! I couldn't even clean up the TT for two weeks. Tonight hubby and I are going to the lake for the weekend so I can clean up!

Storage under the benches is what I would love to have. Our stolen TT had them, and I loved it! This one doesn't have it. We have a front kitchen, but our youngest son (6 feet tall) didn't want to sleep in the kitchen because my husband is an early riser. He preferred to sleep in our room When we had our old TT, no one camped with us. Then we traded it in for this one (same size), and all of a sudden, our sons start to go camping with us! If I had the foresight, we would have gotten a 5er!

Agree with OBX Forever....we have an XLite so there is very little storage. Those drawers under the benches are crucial. I would prefer a table and chairs but we couldn't possibly give the storage space.

I'd never give up the table/chairs for anything. Actually, two of the chairs never go with us. We bought the 5er for the 2 of us. If company wants to tag along, great the sofa makes into a bed or try the 2 recliners. If that doesn't work, sleep in my truck or get a room somewhere. BTW, as my mother used to say, "company is like fish. After 3 days both begin to stink".

Oh, I should add we bought this 32' camper for the TWO of us. There are no accommodations for anyond else, except the Jack knife sofa, which is sbout as comfortable as a bag of bricks. You want to go camping with us? Fine....tents are cheap!!

I agree with Wana and Grumpy. When we had a Class A, we took out the booth dinette and had custom table and chairs put in as it gave us more room for dining (table expanded to seat six). I don't believe it affected the value of the rig one way or another. Booth are usually standard in RVs, with table and chairs as $ option. If you are looking at the booth as an extra bed, then your guests must be kids or smurfs.

I concur with the general consensus. A table & 4 chairs is way more convenient &
more leg room. Those booth seats get really cramped. Also depending who is travelling with you. If it's your son (ours is 25 years old) we pitch a tent beside the trailer. Give him an extension cord & a light & he's happy. Sleeps half the day anyway.
