we bought our HTT in Chicago and pulled back to NorCal along I80.
great road with really no big issues or bad climbs.
but the stretch from Utah to Reno, seemed to be longer than it really was and the most boring/mind-numbing of any part of that drive.

wear your sunglasses across bonneville salt flats. its about 100 miles of bright white, and you will need them. i agree that salt lake city to reno is absolutely a mind numbing drive.
I-80 is a combination of everything from smooth sailing to rough. Expect headwinds from western Nebraska on across Wyoming. Plan on hitting that Salt Lake to Reno run fresh and rested with some good tunes and the sun at your back, then just let er roll from there.
