He can most likely get a local dealer that will do the work for major items. I got mine 7 hours away and would do it again. I was in same boat as OP no one local had trailer I wanted and the one that did the price was $10,000 more than what I paid.

Many have not been that lucky trying to find a dealer that did not sell the unit to do warrantee work !!!

Congrats on your new purchase. You choose the right WDH and should work well with your tt. I have a 35 ft tt and use the 1400 # Equalizer hitch.

What happens at times with a FR dealer that you did not purchase from is they will put you last on there list for warranty work so your tt may sit longer than need be. Just depends on the dealer. Later RJD

FR warrenty will help you find a dealer. You can also have it repaired by any dealer but you will have to get pre authorization for repair pay bill get reimbursed. FR will not pay for the travel fee for mobile repair but will pay for repair work. Best thing is to contact FR warrantee for any questions. I have done small repairs myself and had parts sent to my house. For major repairs I will have independent do it and get reimbursed. No FR dealer in my area is worth anything on repair work. Tried CW and my trailer will never go back. They screwed up more than fixed. .

Any advice for a newbie, both on towing, picking up our new unit and using it our first time?
When you do get your tt consider taking out the extra year warranty offered by FR for $150. Later RJD

whoever told you that, lied.

BUT, FR found us local dealer that were willing to do the warranty work, cause we bought from a dealer 2000 miles away.
i just had to accept that i'd be at the back of the line.

just be aware that you have to do your homework first. as was said, FR can't require their dealers to do warranty work on units that they didn't sell.
again, many think that the RV industry works like the auto industry. they don't!

RV manufacturers can ask their dealer to do warranty work on units they didn't sell, but they can't force them.

as was also said, you can be reimbursed for an independent shop to do the work, just get pre-approval from FR.

Congrats on the toy hauler. Your truck will handle that trailer with out a single problem. Your hitch and equalizer will work great together.

bikendan is right on !!!
Remember it is nothing like dealing with car dealers on warrantee work !!!
I hear the problem is because of the amount FR pays repair shops to do the work,,, the repair shop can make a lot more money working on other units ???

We bought out of state but have had a fine experience locally with warranty work. We called ahead, made appointments at the end of the season and also had them winterize and add a few accessories. We also had then complete the second year FR warranty work. While it was at a seasonal site and the AC went out (4th of July no less), we found a Domestic certified travel mechanic. We paid $80 fir his travel fee and FR/ Dometic paid for the new AC unit. Not all experiences are like the horror stories you read.
