Is Camping FUN or NOT?

My wife and I have just prchased a new pull behind camper. We have used it three times and enjoyed it each time.

The "problem" is this...every time we come home she wants us to wash it completely inside and out. Now, I DO believe in cleanliness, but not to the point of washing the paint off of the camper. The roof, in particular, seems to accumulate a black substance that "needs" to be scrubbed off....read "on hands and knees".... every blasted square inch.

So the poser.....how often do you guys wash your campers? Is there a "car wash" one can use to drive it through? Like a truck stop?

Just curious.

Our unit's home when not in use is near a heavily traveled gravel road.....with the current drought keeping the outside clean is a lost cause. The way I see it..if you stay on top of the inside during the your trips it make life a lot easier. I sweep and Vac the carpets every day when we are in the camper. Takes only a minute or two.

Scrub down the counters and tables as part of the tear down.

We wash our unit twice a year on the exterior spring and fall.
On the the interior the dw just does basic cleaning between trips .
She cleans interior top to bottom before winterizing.

She is welcome to come and wash our 5th wheel once a month.
I would not complain if she wants to wash mine

I take care of the OUTSIDE, she takes care of the INSIDE, Kim! LOL

I really think that a Spring and Fall cleaning should do it....like f1100turbo said.

Since I do all the driving, I think I can get her to see the light!

I rather have my TT clean when I take it out but it's not a requirement. Get her to help you dry it off and after a few times she might re-think it.

I know that most people do not dry off the trailer but we have hard water here so it worth the effort.

I keep the inside pretty clean while on a trip - with 3 children it could get pretty messy if it wasn't a daily task. With dirty clothes and any dishes I want to run through the dishwasher taken inside, it's pretty much good to go for the next adventure. I restock what ever has been used (need more mayonaise and diaper wipes - note to self) remake the beds, put the clothes and dishes away and all we need to do is load children and fresh food from the home fridge that would rot before we get home.

The outside is a different story. I should wash it but the mosqutoes have been so thick that I don't even want to go outside.

I am a freak !I wash my TT twice a month roof and sides and awnings and I also wax it twice a year DW cleans inside after every trip. We go camping every other week end.

After an outing of camping it is normal to clean the inside the same way it was when you left. For the outside it is also normal to give a good wash to get rid of the road dust and also the dust that you get from some campgrounds because they have no paved road etc. Dont go to trucks and car washes. The water pressure can cause leaks inside that you will regret after. Use a fine mist when you rince to prevent this.

Your not alone, my wife thinks I'm crazy. I wash it every trip, the inside is spotless, wax and buff as needed. I don't mind doing it either. I also super anal about my trucks. Washed usually 1-2 times a week, waxed frequently, insides spotless. Must be a disease.

Even though it's a lot of work, it's still fun. I've been trying to add an extra day to our camping weekends making it more worth the extra work.

You're not alone Chewie, my husband washes it after every trip..I don't care if it's a three day trip. On the flip side, I do clean the inside after each trip, restock whats necessary, then we're ready to go if we decide on a Thursday night to leave Fri morning!
We don't mind the cleaning, its become part of owning a RV, however, I do wish for a laundry fairy!!

Sorry guys, its justa truck. When I bought it new I drove it home and immediately got my key and scratched the fender.
Tada! No worries about dings and its first scratch.

Same with the camper.
A week old and I ran into it with the riding mower.

Meh, clean it inside and out when it gets dewinterized. Coat of good wax at the same time.

Gets cleaned out when winterized so no critters find food attractions to draw hem in.

Then clean and vacuum during and after use.

Check a couple days before we go out and if it's gotten dirty sitting, clean inside. I like it clean at least the first day.

Outside, meh.

Clean/scrub it if the black streaks start. Scrub the bugs of the front cap when they get bad. Wash the diesel soot off if it gets noticeable.

It's always kept at least presentable but we're not stupid crazy about spotlessness.

Otherwise, it's goes as is.
