Nobody in their right mind would bring 125k cash to a transaction with a private person they do not know for property they have never even seen!

If you get pulled over on your way to buy, say goodbye to all of that cash if, for some crazy reason, you allow the police to search your car.

For a sale this large, I'd have the buyer go through a local financial institution for the purchase. Let the bank, credit union, ect. do the work and take the risk. They can transfer the funds directly into your account.

Not to scare anyone but BE CAREFUL. few years ago a guy in Canada had his truck advertised. 2 guys came for test drive. Killed the owner and took the truck. (and the killer could have easilly afforded to buy the truck).

This is one of the reasons I do more advertising on Facebook Marketplace rather than Craigslist. You can still get scammers but not as likely since they have to create a fake profile and they are easier to detect.

I rarely advertise a vehicle in Craigslist anymore. Just tired of the scammers.

Several news articles about people meeting a buyer from a CraigsList add and being killed for what they were selling.

I would have NOTHING to do with this guy!

I get scammed every time I list something for sale.

We have a local TV station that offers free classified listings, in fact, almost no classified ads appear in the newspaper anymore.

Within hours of posting anything for over $300 I will get a request to buy the item. The phone number on the text looks legit but if you call it, it will not answer. The funniest ones are reading the broken English in the texts.

Most of these are coming from Nigeria and Eastern Block Countries. They almost always state they will send a bank check with plenty of surplus funds that I can pay the shipper his expenses and then some for my trouble.

What they really want is my bank information and if they send a check, it will look legit but won't clear (as mentioned above).

What kills these dals is a text back of 'Cash Only, no checks or wires" Poof, they are gone.

These stories do not bother me. I sell a lot online where I meet people in person. You have a better chance getting hit by lightning or getting killed driving to the store than this.

Of course you live in a very high violent crime rate state which may sway your opinion a bit.

Trust your gut. Give your intuitions credibility. IMHO, someone with brain cancer doesn't want to spend his time and physical strength on a RV trip. I, personally, would be living it up and wanting someone else to do the cooking, cleaning, driving etc.

Definitely a SCAM!!! Don't fall for it. Some people get their "Kicks" out of this making one believe that a sale could be in the progress.

The odd thing is that someone in Maine would be reading a Craigs List ads from another part of the country.

The brain cancer reference could be a ploy to have you let down your guard and be sympathetic.

A bank wire is safe and can be completed same day. Not able to be cancelled.

Many "cashiers checks" are found to be fraudulent and it can take a week or ten days fr them to bounce. Then you are on the hook for all the fees and the amount. A common scam is to have someone say he'll send you a cashier's check and arrange to have a service pick up the vehicle. The check seems good and you release the vehicle, only to have the check bounce later. Another variation is to send you more than the asking price so you can wire him the excess amount to ship the vehicle. Then the check bounces and you are out the wire amount as that is unrecoverable.

Scammers act very interested in sending you money and not asking many real questions, as they don't care about the vehicle and wnat to appear naive and tempt you to "take advantage" of them.

I have accepted certified checks many times. But I will NOT let go of the item or title, if applicable, until I've called the issuing bank and confirmed the check is good. I always personally look up the bank info and don't depend upon any phone number that might be on the check, either. Considering that a certified check must be "purchased", and isn't dependent upon an account staying active or having the funds to cover, I see no way one could be scammed using this method.

Its a scam!!!
I got the same kind of an e-mail when I was selling a motorcycle on Craigs List.

I said have your courier bring cash when he comes to pick it up. Never heard from them again!
They want your money, not your trailer!!!

too good to be true

If it's to good to be true, then it usually is!

When I bought my MH in April, one of those great deals came my way, trust your gut , you already do not like the situation. Be honest, tell the guy your not comfortable doing this transaction, and if he argues hangup.

good luck on what ever you do!

IT IS A SCAM. Had two or three of those kind of bleeding heart calls when we were selling our MH too.
