The AC filters in the Sanibel are pretty easy to remove and clean as they are. The input filters are located on the inside roof of the unit and are easy to get to. The filters are behind the about 6x12" (guess) white, looks like normal floor register covers. There is a filter behind the register you can very easily replace the filter material on the filter with AC filter material from the hardware store. NO need to go cutting larger holes in the ceiling.

Sorry, but I spent a portion of my working life designing a/c systems. The CFM of return air per square inch of filter area is way, way too great for a Rv air conditioner filter to be effective . with a 12 x 12 pleated filter I am getting four time the filter area with a filter media meant to take out very small particles - all of which can easily plug up the evaporator coil fins. Its a lot cheaper than paying Camping world $75 to clean the coils.

Are you saying there is two much return air or not enough? I saw where someone opened up an additional return vent

The greater the filter area, the less resistance to the air flow which h will result in more airflow. The greater the filter area, the slower teh airflow through the filter, and thus better filtration efficiency and /or reducing the number of times you have to replace or clean the filters. We are full timers and use our AC a lot. We also lost on Carrier AC on our previous motorhome because the evaporator coil was pack with lint and dust because ot the wimpy foam filter that Carrier used

So you would recommend adding more return air space and filter

The entire ceiling is a retrn ir plenum. Adding the 12 x 12 filter frills with pleated filters will increase the filter area ten fold. If yo do add the filter grills, take pieces of 1 x 2 wood, to increase the s[ace between the roof insulation and the ceiling to insure good airflow.

Stop by Home Depot today they have the 12 x 12 filters. what did you use for the grill they have the metal 12/12 return grills? Also I assume you have to make a spot to hold the filter in the ceiling.

I found 12 x 12 filters you spoke of at Home Depot did you use their metal grills or were you able to locate plastic grills somewhere?

I used 12 x 12 filter grills. They basically are i" deep flanges that a grill is attached to with a hinge on one side and two clips on the other. I enlarged the holes of the existing return air grills. The original grills on my Sanibel has a 1x2
wooden "rafter" that I screwed one side of the grill and the other three sides to the ceiling panel. Home depot and Lowes have the grills
