Kayaking Florida and Georgia

We are purchasing our first kayaks and would like to know what places in Florida and Georgia you like to kayak. We have a canoe too and have canoed on the Rainbow, Santa Fe, Wekiva rivers. Where else do you who kayak suggest?

Just got back from kayaking Weeki Wachee River. Wow!! What a beautiful spot! Stayed at Chassahowitska River Campground about 20 minutes away. Also Kayaked there on the Chassahowitska River. Will be going back ASAP !!

Camp @ Silver Springs S/P & paddle the Silver River. Can launch at the park or go about 5 miles east on Highway 40 & put in at Rays Wayside Park. Lots of wildlife & may even see some monkeys.
Also Suwannee River S/P west of Live Oak. Upper Suwannee River & Withlacoochee North River. Many springs & some major shoals on the With. River.

Thumbs up

Crooked River State Park GA.

They have trails laid out using tide charts to maximize the distance and minimize the effort. Nice campground as well.

Don't launch without knowing what the tides are doing.

And be sure to check out Cumberland island. A fantastic hiking experience.

We like to kayak around the Cape Canaveral area. Also Mosquito Lagoon and Indian River are fun if it isn't windy.

Living right up the road from Weeki Wachee Springs one would think I would say that that river of course. But I have a simpler answer. EVERYWHERE.... Florida is a kayakers paradise. Each place will offer different surprises and sights. I think the easier question to answer here would be which place is your least favorite. For me I really haven't found a bad place to explore... Just getting out there and exploring the waters is the best of all....

Assuming you are asking for Flatwater places ... they are pretty much endless in those two states. Florida has numerous Springs, blueways and dedicated water trails. They follow rivers, coastal, and swamps. Go to Paddle Florida website to learn more. Recently camped at Salt Springs NP, paddled with manatees there. Nearby were Alexander, Juniper, Silver, and Blue Springs. Many more springs in panhandle and across North FL near Lake City. In GA, can paddle the South Chickamauga, West Chickamauga creeks, the Conasauga, Coosawattie, and Ostanaula, Lookout Creeks all based around Chattanooga TN. Further south in the North GA hills are the Etowah, and Toccoa and others. Along GA's southeast coast look at Cumberland Island from which you can paddle south to some of FL state parks north of Jacksonville. SYOTR!

X2... we had a seven mile paddle from the Springs to the haulour...crystal clear water and manatees inches from the kayaks ...excellent.

Also had a nice paddle down the Peace River in Wachula...very pristine and beautiful. Some gators, big birds & other wildlife.

Thanks to each of you. Many great ideas. Our daughter lives in the Chattanooga area and we are in north central Florida, near many of the places you all have mentioned.

Don't forget Salt Springs Recreation area. Full hookups on salt Springs and the clear run to lake George.

We love Manatee Springs State Park for kayaking, as well as bird-watching along the tidal flats of Cedar Key.

Almost anywhere in the Florida Keys. We are on Long Key and just paddled the mangrove paths around Layton, FL. today. Beautiful and quite a variety of adventures.
