key broke off in lock

So my 10 year old slipped off the steps when he was taking the key out of the lock and it broke off.

Any quick fix we can do to get it out?

Unless there's any part of the key protruding out of the lock that you could get needle-nosed pliers on, I think you'll need a locksmith.

Can you get in? Maybe try a can or from Air compressor, of compressed air from the inside or outside and see if it'll vibrate out a bit? I seem to remember a thread a few months back about ferrying a broke off key out, but can't remember for sure

Good luck

Is he OK?

A locksmith will cost you $100 (guessing), but can help.

Do you have any emergency roadside plans like Good Sams or CoachNet? Can they help?

Otherwise, good suggestions above.

Thank you for the replies.

My son is fine. Thanks for asking. He was rushing and thankfully wasn't hurt.

We actually were able to put what was left of the key in and lock it so we could travel home. (It happened on the last night of an 8 night trip!)

We are going to try the tips in the video (thanks for posting!). Hoping to not have to call a locksmith.

We have Coach net (included for a year with the purchase of the 233s). Would they be able to help? We have only had the trailer since Feb.; would this be covered under the warranty if we can't get the broken key out?

I've used the video techniques and they work for a broken off key!

since you don't list the year of your 233S, i don't know if you have the pre-attached canvas or not.
we had our lock mechanism break on our Roo 23SS. we have the old style bungee and snap canvas.
i simply opened a bunk end, got on a short ladder and crawled in under the canvas. then i just went to the door and was able to disassemble the lock from the inside.

Worst case, you can replace the whole lockset and handle for about $40.....

We use a pick set on our lot when a key gets broken in the locks.
