Learned something tonight

I went out tonight getting the camper ready for a trip this weekend and decided to hook the water to the camper so that i could bleed the air out of water heater as I drained it a few weeks ago during a freeze. I noticed that my water heater is gas/ electric. I asked my dealer during pdi and he told me no that the water heater was gas only just like my old/ new camper that they had to buy back and replaced with a new one. I found out to always double check what my dealer has told me.

So this begs the question: Was the electric on or off? If ON, you may have unknowingly burned up the electric heater element if you had power on and the heater not yet fully full. You might want to check on that.

You really believe everything your dealer says. I sure don't.
Was the electric switch on the unit outside in the off position with a pin thru it?
You only want to turn the switch on and the breaker when you have it full of water and no air in the tank or you will burn up the electric element.

I usually when in a campground hooked up to shore power use the electric and if I need more I just turn on the propane switch inside to give it that extra boost for more hot water for a few showers.

Good luck

The switch was off but it didn't have a pin inserted and switch doesn't have a hole for one. I filled the tank and then turned it on and a short while later I went out and checked to make sure it was working. I am happy that I can save on propane now when camping.

WHY?
His tank he was talking about was his water heater tank. NOT his propane. You need to read and comprehend a little better next time.

Because he wasted propane he could have saved if he had heated his water with electric.

Some new water heaters are fail safe. If there's no water and you turn the elect ON, it senses there's no water and won't come on. At least that's the way it is in my CC.
