I like Ocean Lakes because motorcycles are not allowed in the park. I normally go there in the off season
Same here ......

I have seen them put up cones if a camper is in the lane a foot or two.

always go with total so 30 ft. you dont want a shorter camp site. someone might hit your hitch at night and that would be a hell of a wake up

I think it probably varies by campground, but we go by the overall length. We're too new at this to have to fit our TT in with a shoehorn. LOL.

If you've camped there before and are certain you fit, then I'd use the box size when I make a reservation. I wouldn't downsize my length at an unknown park, though, because it might just be a problem.

I was looking at the Rocky Mountain National Park website just yesterday and they specifically say that they measure from bumper to tongue, and if you arrive with an RV that's longer than you stated, they will kick you out. I don't know if they really do that, but they're definitely trying to put the fear of God in you!

Just opposite it took a hurricane to empty the campground. They are booked through Aug. Nearly booked through the end of October and probably nearly booked for the summer of 2019. That is all of about 800 sites. That does not take into account the 2500 permanent sites.

That was probably the emptiest it has been in 30 years...........

I never go anywhere camping on any of the big holiday weekends. In fact rarely camp during July and August.

Nice to be retired!

[QUOTE=formerFR;1838843]and that serves you well, in most circumstances, but here's the 'real' scoop on why campgrounds ask for you 'length':

They are NOT trying to keep you from coming and camping!

They are simply providing a 'standard' size maximum for this specific site, but what most folks don't take into consideration, or just plain don't 'know', is that the site more-than-likely is set to not only offer the capability for a trailer/rv/motorhome up to 27', but also the room for the TOW VEHICLE it is attached to, since, of course, your tow vehicle needs to park there, too.
[QUOTE]

which then raises the question of did the campground owners inquire on the length of the TV?

Our first trailer was a tag along 27RKSS which was 31 feet long.
The F150 crew cab truck with 6.6 box was just over 17 feet without the bull bars attached.

Our new trailer is a 331 TH 12 5ith wheel which is 38 feet long
Our new F250 Super Crew with the 6 3/4 box and bull bars is longer than our first.

if the campground is concerned about overall length of the trailer for lot fitting then they have forgotten about the TV config. and how the trailer is coupled to the truck.

I'd tell the campground its 27 feet and wait for nothing will happen.

That's about 63 more than I care to camp with!

I have a site booked for Memorial Day 2019 at Hunting Island that says max vehicle length 30, site length 60. My 33 footer will fit just fine.

Size DOES matter

I have a 33 foot TT and fit into most spots but more often than not it isn't the length of the trailer that matters- it's the width. My Sport Trek has 3 slide outs and apparently most spots were built before this was a concern. We are far more likely to encounter trees and/or other structure that limit the fit than overall length. I can live with parking the truck somewhere else but Momma whines something awful when we can't use the slide outs.

Wide is important too.
