Length of leveling boards

I am getting things ready for our 253rks which arrives tomorrow. Cutting up some 2x6 for leveling boards. What is the min length needed to put both tires on the board?

Thanks.

I assume you are pulling up onto them, correct. If so, I suggest you build them this way;

1. measure the tire footprint that your RV displaces, add a length to give you slack.
2. suggest you build a two tier block, by adding a second layer at the end of the block.
In effect, like driving, pulling up a second tier if you need more height.
3. important to sandwich your 2 x 6's with 1/2" plywood, otherwise you risk splitting.
4. drill two holes along the side, sufficiently apart to allow you to stuff the end of nylon rope
and drive some nails in the hole, securing the rope as a loose handle to retrieve them
more easily.
5. cut all board approaches at 45 degrees (both levels) to allow smooth transition onto your
levelers.

If you haven't bought the lumber yet I would go with 2x8s.

They're easier to hit. And you will always want ALL of the tire tread to be on the board or risk damaging the tire.

Coming from one who needs all the help he can get backing up anything.

x2 on the 45 deg bevels.

He's asking for the length he needs to make them. Obviously doesn't have his TT at home.

The wheels are 33 inches apart, center to center, so your shortest piece should be 36 inches or so, I should think.
I use Anderson levelers, so haven't had to use boards in a lot of years. However, a couple/three weeks ago I tried to use them in very soft mud (the whole site was gravel on mud) and they just pushed down into the ground. I ended up picking a different site (in a first come state park) that was drier and they worked well.

nobody can answer this unless they have the same trailer. Some trailers have axles very close together. Some spread far apart. What works for one person doesn't necessarily work for another.

You are absolutely correct. Which is why I answered with a specific number.

My 273qbxl I was able to take a 2"x10"x8' cut it in half and then slope the sides. Stacked together I had enough length to pull both tires up on the board. I will post a pic. I did not take an exact measurement. If you don't get an answer by tomorrow, I'll measure it for you.

And why the OP said he had a 253rks.

Thank you for the input. The reason I ask is because I know the newer trailers have a greater distance between wheels and I just thought I would get a simple answer. I sloped 3 boards 1 at 4' and 2 at 3'

I also cut 4 18" 4x4 (one for each stabilizer) and 2 14" 4x4 for the tongue. I also have a couple of 2x6 pieces for the tongue as well.

Which, oddly enough, is what I have. I even went outside to measure.

Did they have the wider tire distance in the 2014 compared to the newer rigs?

Nope, they are exactly the same.

Changes for 2017 include:
1 drawer under dinette bench
LED lighting under awning
Solar power prep and
Rear camera prep
And a Continu.us omnidirectional tv antenna

That's pretty much it.

I carry some foot long 1x6 pieces. Use them quite often. Trying to level in 1.5 inch increments seems to often be a tad to little or to much.

I know he OP has already bought and cut his boards but I would suggest that you leave the boards long enough that you can place chocks on both ends and have the chocks fully on the boards. That leaves the space between the tires for X-chocks.

I cut one 2x10 (see Radio's comment) as long as I could and still fit in the bed of my truck with the tail gate closed. I use lego blocks on top of the board if needed. Wvrond, can you use the Anderson levelers on top of a board, or will they slide?

There is a tendancy for them to slide on any smooth surface. Some folks have put adhesive treads on them to counteract this, but I've never had a problem on pavement, concrete or wet grass. I believe that if I were going to make a board to go under them on really soft ground I would apply a traction strip to the top of the board to enhance traction.

I bought 2 sets of these, one for each tire. These will work with any TT, are alot lighter and stow easier.
