Let me vent about no vent!

I have a forest River Grey Wolf 19RR. When I fill the water tank, water pours out of the tank vent down under the camper. About 5 gallons pours out until the water level in the tank reaches below the vent. I just crawled under the trailer to see if the vent hose was disconnected.
THERE IS NO VENT HOSE!
Simply the tank vent elbow with nothing attached.

Then I pulled the water fill device to see if the vent hose was there but just never attached...NOTHING!

In fact it's worse, the connection where the vent hose is supposed to attach is sealed with caulk!

Whats up with this? Am I missing something here? Seems bad that the fresh water tank vent would simply be open to the elements, underneath the trailer where all kinds of nasties could get into the drinking water.

Yes, you are missing something! ... a vent hose. I can't believe someone sealed the hole with caulk!! Lame! Did you buy this new?

No, it is a 2011, one owner that was never registered! It is like new condition. As I fuss around and modify stuff, I'm shocked at the shoddy workmanship!...And the lack of a simple vacum cleaner to clean up after they cut holes everywhere. They even leave the piece they cut out behind. Couldn't take 5 seconds to throw away the trash. Just leave it under the hot water heater or next to the pump.

So glad I didn't pay retail!....There would be hell to pay!

Not all, but some are actually built this way. Not necessarily the best way or right way, but a way.

Oh, welcome to the world of RVs. Consider the trash they leave behind a bonus. Sometimes you can get quite the collection of screws and electrical stuff.

Heck, I've even had tools left in mine when it made a return trip to the factory.

My 2013 Columbus is built this way as many of the new ones are. I put a valve on mine so it does not siphon out. I rarely use my fresh water tank.

A Dealer, not the Dealer we bought from New replaced the (Fresh water Tank, the tank heat pad,the Vent tube, for a longer one,the water Pump, and then I replaced the Fresh water fill/vent assembly on the outside that broke)! That was when it was New,then when we took it back to its Birthplace for the Slide issue I ask if they could Place the FW pump pickup line to the Sump area on the FW tank instead of (2" up the side) then we would have ALL the water usage from the Tank, they gladly changed the location for us! After all of this when we fill our FW tank (Slowly) until the water comes out the (Vent/Overflow outlet) by the Fill cap location,we have a FULL FW tank and No siphoning! Youroo!!

I bought a 21rr brand-new and it was the same way. I bought a piece of vinyl hose and two clamps and fixed it myself. I bought a 27rr and had to do the same thing. It is an easy fix but I don't understand why they don't do it at the factory.
