Leveling blocks. - Page 3

I bought the Andersons recently and am fairly new to RVing. Have been able to level my fifth wheel the first try and at least once by myself. Only concern is the little chock wedge that slides under the arc, cracked the first time I used it on gravel.

I have a pair I modified (both of them) and have 10 or 15 tinker toy plastic blocks that I am trying to decide what to do with them, either garbage can or storage shed.

If you have room keep them, you might have a use for them one day... but not until after you finally get rid of them. This is a law of nature.

We still use our orange "lego" blocks for leveling, but when we don't need them for that, we use them under the stab jacks, and sometimes under the tongue, so as not to need to extend those too far. They are sturdy and lighter-weight than blocks of wood.

I use 2x boards for leveling. I kept my orange blocks and use them either under the stabilizers or under the step or both.

I've hauled them and moved them the last time. If you want them, come on down, they'll be in the storage shed.

I've got to ask, whats the reason for the hate on the Lynx blocks? I just purchased 2 sets of 10 to go with the new trailer(that comes home Saturday, finally!). I've used 2x8's and 2x10's for years, but figured these look much less unruly to store. Granted the trailer has no pass through storage, it's a toyhauler but I don't want any more "stuff" floating around in the garage than needs to be. Like 4' 2x's.

Don't hate them, I covered 6 of the top and bottom of the Lynx type pads with alum tread plate and attached them to the landing jacks & stabilizer jacks. I just bought a pair of Anderson's and have no use for the Lynx type blocks anymore.

If I can throw a though out there re using wood to level, I had my wood blocks that I use under my levelers taken by a boarder guard when crossing boarder, untreated wood not allowed to cross. I am sorry, this was going into USA, Canadian boarder doesn't allow either.And yes the guard wanted to look inside my compartments and inside MH.

When I crossed back in 2014, the officer asked if I had fire wood. I did not. I was carrying treated boards for leveling that I brought from the US into Canada, but neither the US or Canadian asked about wood products. I think they asked about farm products, but the Canadian officer drilled me about guns and ammo for quite awhile. He went into the TH and spent nearly all of the few minutes he was in there looking at my Triumph Thunderbird and checking out the TH.

Well you got lucky, the guard we had was a BIG PR..K !!! He didn't care that wood was pressure treated, it didn't have paint on it end of story.He looked thought every compartment and fridge, didn't find anything else, so I only carry plastic leveling blocks now.

We used to due some racing in BC., and had been back and forth alot, But one trip, my son took along (to have something to read on the way) Guns and Ammo magazine and we got stopped at the border. The mag. was left on the pass. seat. When the dude saw it, they must of thought that Bonnie and Clyed had arrived. Needless to say, everything, and we carried a lot of race stuff in a 40' trailer.... everything out! O well, it was time to re-organize. 4 hrs later, GET OUTER HERE.

Had a similar experience when I took our race car and trailer to Saskatoon, Sk. to meet Mardy coming from Anchorage. Had an old school bus painted all sorts of colors packed with all sorts of things got waved thru right in front of me. Me, I got stopped, told to pull over, showed my dl & passport, told to raise the hood, searched the inside of the truck, opened the tonneau cover, completely unloaded my suitcase and left the contents in the bed of the truck, opened the side door and ramp door on the trailer, searched the cabinets, all the drawers in the 2 tool boxes, lifted the hood and trunk on the race car, ask me to start the car, which I did. They asked some questions about the motorcycle engine in the car, walked out and said "Enjoy your stay in Canada" Took a total of about 2-1/2 hrs. When I started to leave, one of the guys walked by and I ask him about the bus being waved thru and stopping me and was told that they were doing searches by a random number generator and I just happened to be no. 10. Nice fellows, but Jeez. On the way back into the States, the agent just waved at me.

They claim to be able to xray your entire rig while sitting at the window, but I seriously doubt they can... no... more than doubt it... but can't go into why I say that.

It took 2-1/2 hours to get across that bridge getting into Canada. There were 10 or more lanes with only 2 manned. Then, to add insult to injury, they charged a toll for the priviledge of getting to wait for them. I probably won't ever do that again. Been there, done that, got the T-shirt.

I have wondered if it was the "retired AF" hat and the base pass stickers on the windshield that raise his interest.

OC, coming back in, when I wasn't sure of the temp tag number, he ran back behind the TH and got it for me, then told us about a few nice places to ride in upper NY state. Nice guy.

Believe me I have had some A..'S on the Canadian side also, but my point was about wood leveling blocks, not to get into a big debate about boarder guards

Other than the time spent (really unimportant as I was a day early), the border guards were very pleasant, they have jobs to do and I don't begrudge them one bit. They were courteous and professional.

I just thought it rather funny the system they had that day to choose who to inspect.
