Can’t find the picture but on my previous toy hauler I was able to keep the Progressive plugged into power behind the kitchen cabinet drawers. On my current MH I have it connected in the left rear storage compartment. Keeps it safe and dry.

I have the same surge protector and carry a length of chain long enough to wrap around the pedestal and lock it to the metal plate on the cord with a good padlock. It’ I pain in the ass but it works so far.

Most boxes that you plug into have a loop on it so a simple padlock will lock the male end into your service box, I always carry a cable and lock for those rare occasions you just may need to secure something.

We use this on our EMS https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The people that make comments about where are you camping, I'm going to take a wild guess that you've never had anything stolen? I wish!
We've not had anything stolen in our 1+ year since we got the TT, but in my 50 years on this planet, my parents' home in a nice part of town was broken into (nothing stolen because we were home and must've heard us and left), my apartment in a nice part of town was broken into and a lot of stuff was stolen, both in value and sentimentality; a friend and I were mugged while waiting in line at the theater at the mall, and a few years ago on our way home from a vacation (before we had a TT), our vehicle was broken into and all our luggage was stolen while we stopped to walk our dog for 20 minutes near Mt Hood, Oregon. That really sucked but I do know it could've been worse, like we could've gotten into a car accident on the way home. They destroyed my seatbelt and we still had another hour and a half drive to get home. I had to hold our dog on my lap because she couldn't sit in the glass-filled backseat. She wasn't too keen on that as she was trained to be buckled in and sit in back or on the console so she was very wiggly for a while trying to get back there. I had no seatbelt myself and had to try to keep her on my lap with a broken window too. We had over $3k of damage and stolen items ($1k OOP and I won a $1k sweepstakes 3 days later so that was really cool!), but we had just lost one of our dogs and had some sentimental stuff with us that couldn't be replaced. Then there was fear of identity theft and also the thieves coming to our home (not far from where it happened) because of some of the stuff they stole, and last but not least, dealing with police and insurance for months afterwards. While thieves just go on their merry way.
Because of all this, call me paranoid, but I just assume my stuff is going to get taken if I don't take appropriate precautions, even though technically all the above situations had some precautions as well. It won't stop them all. As they say, locks keep honest people honest.

Mine is Secured inside a storage compartment.
My Forester has a receptial inside the rear storage compartment. It’s there for connecting the generator, manually, to the electrical system. I plug the surge protector in at there and have an extension cord that I connect to the shore power. The surge protector is out of the elements and safely secured inside the compartment. It’s attached with a 3/4 conduit attachment also so if some one pulls the cord the surge protect stays where it is and I would only loose the extension cord. A good surge protector can cost hundreds, so it’s a good idea to secure it. If your Rv has the plug on the out side it a pretty easy and economical fix to put a box with a 30 or 50 pump female outlet inside a compartment. While an exterior connection is more convenient, security is more important to me. Seems Rv manufactures should consider security and put the outlet inside a compartment with access like the Forester I have. Maybe both. :gathering

I thought Forester had changed all their models to an Auto Transfer Relay system for generator power. Is there an access hole for the cord or does the compartment door have to be slightly open.

Here's another lock idea. The cable slips through the lock and can be cinched down as tight as needed. they are available in various cable diameters. You could get the appropriate diameter to go through the locking tab on the pedestal or just wrap it around tight enough so it can't be pulled over the top. I like that the lock is attached the cable instead of being two separate pieces.

How nice it would be if the manufacturers integrated a metal loop into the units so a bike type lock could be used to secure .

I understand folks might 'fence' a hot one at some pawn shop. But doubt they'd get much if the pawn operator knew about them........RV'ers don't shop at pawn shops.
Can't imagine the thief stealing it to use for himself..........just too weird.

Yes, but not off the post, out of a compartment with other stuff stolen. I always lock mine as it's very easy to swipe and walk away. It's worth as much as a nice bike. Well, maybe a nice bike in the good old days.

For those of you that lock the cover on the pedestal. In most jurisdictions it’s not legal to lock a power box for safety reasons. It is quite dangerous. If a short or fire should happen first responders need to be able to turn the power off quickly. If the cover is locked people can die. Lock the surge protector not the cover!

I guess that’s along the same line of reasoning for no locking latches on motorhome propane compartments. At least it’s a lot harder to remove one of those big tanks.

With my Progressive Industries portable 50 Amp protector, I use a gun lock cable. The flexible "cable" part is made of case hardened steel locking into what looks like any lock. I route the cable through the tab hole on the protector and on the pedestal box with the lid open so as not to lock the box. It someone really wanted to steal my protector I guess they could. However, the common thief walking by, especially at night where you can see the continuous red LED flashing is deterred from just having to unplug and run. Works for me.

If you didn't already buy it, consider the hardwired version. That's what I bought. It's inside the trailer and you get a led read out of voltage used, current amps and error codes. Plus you don't have to worry about leaving it behind somewhere.

You're conflating home/auto/residential burglary with having things stolen from your campsite while camping. I don't believe that this is an appropriate comparison and it might be prompting you to cross that line from prudent cautiousness to outright paranoia.
Campers aren't a group of saints. They're a cross-section of regular society, so there will be dirt-bags and thieves among the group. But, in general, I think you can expect much less nefarious activity in a captive campground of 30-100 sites with limited valuables than you could in a neighborhood of houses and cars.
I lock my EMS when I'm able ... about half of the junction boxes are lockable. I otherwise don't worry too much about it. I may grab a simple, easily-defeatable Master lock at some point, but I'm not super excited about another key on my keyring. Low priority. [knock on wood]

Surge Protector Box
I actually had a surge protector box fabricated by a friend who is a welder. I purchased a cheap box (made of plastic from camping world) and took the cheap box and my surge protector to my friend so he could get the correct dimensions and he then fabricated a box out of aluminum and I lock the fabricated box with a padlock. It works great and my surge protector is safe from getting stolen.
