Looking to buy a Bike for my Wife

So I figure there is probably a lot of people who ride bikes around the campgrounds and trials on this forum. My wife has an old bike she bought from Walmart about 15 years ago. She has expressed interest about getting a new one so I thought I would get her one for Mother’s Day. Does anyone have any advice? She would just use it to ride around the neighborhood and around campgrounds. I currently own a Hybrid bike so that’s where I was going to start to look but any advice would be helpful.

Townie makes a very comfortable bicycle for women. More of a cruiser style though than hybrid.

Would they do fine on some of the campground bike trails?

Might look at a Fat Bike. They are much more forgiving when riding over small stones, acorns etc you find in campgrounds ans well as providing a smoother more comfortable ride. Look different, but very practical.

Or if you want her to be the coolest chick at the campground get her a vintage Schwinn Stingray.

I'd go with an e-bike.

Physical fitness level may play into your decision as to the style of a bike. Quality Hybrid type bike from a bike shop should be good. Better bike materials and components make for easier / smoother pedaling.

Stay away from big box store bikes! Personally I like Giant bicycles, but many other manufacturers exist. You might pay a bit more but it is worth the extra cost for a better built bike. Every bike sold in Wal-mart is junk in some sort of way.

I bought DW a Wal-mart bike just over a year ago. A 21 speed full suspension mountain bike. It is now a 3 speed with a broken rear coil spring. Mind you she just cruises around on this bike on trails but nothing anywhere near extreme.

My Wal-mart full suspension MTB is just as bad. You cannot stand up to pedal because if rear suspension compresses the chain pops off then you pop off. This is a design defect "by design". To build bike this suspension properly would be to costly for mass production. It looks good and that all that really matters to them.
We both now have full suspension MTB by Giant, absolutely night and day difference! Buy quality bikes.

Giant bikes are awesome, I would check them out, hard to describe how nice they are, if you test ride it you will buy it though.

Love my Raleigh

I got a Raleigh SC-30 touring bike with hybrid tires (smoother in the middle & knobby on the edges) from local bike shop for my 50th birthday...17 years ago! Hubby got me a bigger seat a few years back and we had it tuned up in 2017 along with new tires. It has been great in rides through many campgrounds, on the Gettysburg Battlefield blacktop, and on the C&O Canal dirt. Hubby rides a Raleigh also. Not sure, but they might have gone to internet- only sales.
I think you get what you pay for.
Happy riding!

We have Revive bikes. Very comfortable. Handle bar section is adjustable up and down and forward and back. Seat is adjustable up and down with a backrest. Also a giant spring that absorbs bumps. Some call them recumbent bikes. Very easy on the knees. Can be pricey. Always have folks try them out wherever we camp.

LIV is Giant's line of women's bikes. DW bought one a couple years ago and loves it for campgrounds and trails. Hers has the step-through frame. Pretty well made at a reasonable price.

Fold ups work great for us! Easy to store at home or on the road! Many great brands! Camping World has them whether or not you like CW! Many Marine (Boat Supplies) carry them and usually have great sales! Have frequent flier miles you will never use--get them that way like we did! Dan & Gerda

I agree with comfun1. A class1 or class 2 e-bike is the way to go

Bikes you more of less get what you pay for. Some people who buy a Wal-Mart or Costco bike then take them to a bike store to get "re-assembled". Don't worry too much about the frame make sure the groupset is a shamano and you might consider a belt drive or a drive assist, again with a belt drive. Belt drive, no chain maintenance, no oil marks on you calf.

I bought a 12 Speed Fold Up bike at Camping World. It takes up little room and seems to be well built. It was on sale at the time.
