Lots of people are about to be very happy

The DW and I just returned from a short trip from St Louis, Mo to Tulsa, Ok and back in order to visit her brother. Since it is still winter, We drove the car and stayed in a hotel.
Today on the way home we travelled east on I -44 for about 375 miles and I stopped counting new campers when I hit 300. We saw campers of all sizes, mostly travel trailers and 5 th wheels and a few class C. They were all being pulled by transporters and headed west. I could see the transporter signs on the side of the trucks but they were traveling the other direction so I could not see who the transporters were.
I know the RV. show was in St Louis this weekend but I can’t imagine they all came from there. Usually the R.V. show showcases local dealers.
I can only imagine there will be plenty of Happy owners in the near future.
And on a side note, I was surprised to see the majority were being pulled by Dodge trucks. Personally, I’m a Chevy guy so I tried to count the Chevy trucks but they were few and far between. Sad to say.

I'd say its more like deliveries to dealers in the west as most RV shows are put on by local dealers. Later RJD

Explain why it makes you sad?

I have seen a multitude of ways TT's and 5th wheels are being transported from pickup trucks to larger towing rigs.

I'd like to see how they load and unload the trailers

The TT's on the flat beds are usually just winched on, not sure how they are off loaded unless they have a way to winch from behind.

They're buying an engine, just so happens to be in a Ram truck. The Cummins is a proven platform and is reliable. If you notice, most of them are very low trim levels- much easier to turn a profit with a 45K truck as opposed to a loaded up 75K truck. You can get a 3500DRW Ram 4x4 SLT for around $45K, which makes it economical. If you look into other commercial industries such as construction, oil production, forestry and so on you'll most likely see many more Ford and Chevy trucks. Seems to indicate to me that the rest of the truck is much more robust on them and they hold up better to off road type use. The Rams towing those RVs are seeing almost exclusively highway miles. I also notice that almost every commercial application that uses gas engine trucks uses Ford and GM, which seems to indicate that when you take the Cummins out of the equation, the Ram isn't very well represented. Can you imagine if Ford or GM had developed a relationship with Cummins back in the day instead of Dodge?

The majority I saw were being pulled by a pick up. I did see a few on flatbeds and wondered how they would get them off, but they do it everyday so there must be a logical way to do it.

I said seeing all the Dodge tow vehicles made me sad, only because I'm a Chevy guy and Chevy seemed to be under represented. But it has peaked my interest, I think I need to give Dodge a closer look the next time I need a new truck. All these transporters cant be wrong.

I really like the look of the Chevy over Dodge and Ford, so I don't know if I will change, but it is worth a look.

Bottom line, with all these RV's heading west, one may want to get on line and start booking those sites sooner than later. Looks like there will be more competition to get a spot in 2018.

Unhook from the TV, raise the flatbed as high as landing gear will allow, use winch to control the speed of the TT as it rolls down the ramps.

I always figured Diesel Dodges sold due to being the cheapest. Until a few years ago they were definitely the ugliest and worst riding

Around here, mostly rodeo folks drive them as they are a huge sponsor for anything rodeo.

I'll keep my ultra dependable Duramax and very comfortable Chevy.

I would think that NOT looking like a transporter would be a good thing, especially in more "liberal" areas.

close!
don't disconnect don't use the winch to unload just let it roll off to a flat road surface. It stops before long.

Just thinking that more liberal areas with very strict towing regulations might be more apt to make sure you aren't hauling commercially by pulling you over or into weigh stations. If it's pretty obvious you are a "recreational tow-er" I would think you'd never catch flack from anyone trying to weigh your rig, check your license endorsements, etc.

Edit: I guess this wouldn't be a concern as long as you weren't towing an unplated (new) rig, though, huh???

Towing companies buy the cheapest tow vehicle they possibly can.

I'm guessing they have something wheeled, like a dolly, that attaches to the coupler (perhaps with the axle width of a trailer). A few people pushing from the front of the trailer while the flatbed driver pays out the winch cable could get it rolled down the ramp no problem.

If the bed tilts, delete the pushers. In either case you'd need someone on the steering.

I’ll stick with my 2017 F-250 Powerstroke 4x4 Lariat over any Dodge or Chevrolet. I was really considering a Chev 2500 with Duramax diesel. A good friend of mine owned a Chev dealership. I was talking to him about the Chev 2500, and he told me that since I was his good friend and if it was him, he would buy the Ford 250 with 6.7 powerstroke over any truck. Just sayin....

I drove new Fords and Chevrolets pickups new every year. Chevy's rode better, Fords more reliable. Have had 2 Dodges since retiring not new by the way. 2007 now 2500, 5.9 diesel, I would never buy anything but a Dodge now way better trucks in my opinion. But you should buy what you are comfortable with

I drive I-44 to work and I see new ones every day. I have been driving that HWY for the last 19 years to work and I have seen more last year and so far this year than ever before.
