Maniacs on the Loose

Just some casual observations following a backtracking trip to the Sierra Nevada last week.

We flew into Las Vegas and rented a car for the six hour drive to Mammoth Lake, CA, driving mostly through the desert where speed limits range up to 70-75 mph on the open road. Now that I'm a new TT owner, I am dialed in to other rv owners and how they handle themselves on the open road. I usually drive five miles over the speed limit (not while towing) and was blown away - literally, at times - at the high rate of speed some TT and fifth wheel owners are willing to risk to get from here to there. Several times, a tt passed me like I was standing still when I was driving at 70-75 mph. To be fair, there were many rvers who did not place themselves, or others, at risk by driving like a bat out of hell, but I was surprised by how many folks are willing to court danger. Desert temps reached 100 degrees+, and I did see a tt with a blown tire on the way to Mammoth and another one at the way back to Vegas - not fun to change a tire in that heat where the pavement was probably another 20 degrees hotter than the air.

I would love for those speed demons to post their itinerary for all to see so we can be sure to avoid them whenever and whereever they're going.

Yep! The worst offenders tend to be diesels pulling 5th wheels.
