Mice In Our Trailer
We've owned our Salem for a year and a half without these little sh-ts getting in, but we've had them invade recently and can't find where they're coming in. We've used, and thought with success, Earthkind Botanical Rodent Repellent, but no more. Short of turning our cat loose in it, anyone have solutions for getting rid of them? We're not full timers and store our trailer under roof between outings.

We had mice. We tried traps, different natural repellents until this. Rodent Mace. We bought the concentrate which makes 10 gallons. But we use it straight, spraying it on an old t-shirt (getting it wet) and then placing it in the belly of the trailer thru a vent near the axles under the trailer. We leave a corner out when screwing the vent cover back on so we can retrieve the rag. I redo the process every 30 - 45 days, it literally drove them out. Inside the trailer was a hint of mint smell for the first couple of days.

Lots of posts on this subject. I have used essential oil of Peppermint ( not food flavoring) for the last 10 yrs with excellent results. Put 2-3 cotton balls in an old coffee mug or glass and put 10-12 drops of peppermint oil on it . For larger units use two mugs. Do not get oil on surfaces as it will damage them.

We've always used Bounce dryer sheets placed inside in various places usually out of sight with good results. We remove the old ones in the fall and put new ones in when we store it for the winter. Have not had a sign of a mouse since we bought it in 2010.

The problem with decon is the mice chew on it and then go and die somewhere that you may not be able to retrieve them from.

So glad you brought up this issue. We have owned our TT just a few months and haven't yet encountered a problem but I know it will happen if we do nothing. I have heard from friends and TT owners about the oil of peppermint. They all say it works. I'm grateful for all the other options and hearing the experiences of others. Thanks all for your posts!

Spearmint plants.
Place a couple inside, alive and in pots.
Plant them around the RV where you store it, if possible.
If you find the entry point, stuff with steel wool.
They won't come back!

When I was winterized, I had left some ketchup and sugar packets in a drawer which the mice found. What a mess to clean out! This winter I will remember to remove ALL food sources. I also stuffed steel wool into the openings.

Please do not use poison. As part of the process of killing them, it makes them thirsty. They leave the RV in search of water and can be eaten by birds of prey or the family cat which will eventually kill them as well.

Or, they go off and die, only to be eaten by an owl, or some other bird that I would rather not see dead on the side of the road because they ate a poisoned rodent.

I use cotton balls soaked in peppermint oil (NOT extract as someone warned about in an earlier comment) and placed in an old margarine tub, dryer sheets, and Fresh Cab Rodent Repellent packs ( https://www.amazon.com/Earth-Natural...mice+repellent ).
Haven't had a rodent problem and don't have to kill them (or cats, birds, etc. that eat mice).

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think I found where they're coming in from the drain pipe below the bathroom sink. I stuffed the opening with steel wool as well as the opening from the water lines located behind the toilet and going into the vanity. We also placed different packets of natural rodent repellent purchased at our local RV dealer that they recommended. See how all of this works. Thanks for everyone's input!

Bounce
We also use bounce inside and place moth balls all around the tires. So far so good.

I don't see that as a problem . they eat it , it makes them thirsty they head outside and die . done deal . i've used it under my house for yrs and yrs never a smelly dead mouse in or under house . I've got my unit sealed so well a tick can't get in . But where i'm camped there are plenty of deer mice running around the abandoned mole holes . I put decon out for them . in a trap like device so no dogs or cats can get into it . after a few days i don't see the little buggers running around . and have not seen a dead bird, dog , cat etc

Let the cat loose. Once the cat's scent is all over the trailer, mice will look for cat-free accommodations.

REF: Mice
We use bounce dryer sheets throughout the trailer. We store our 5th Wheel Trailer at our permanent site in a wooded area and have never had any issues with mice. We always remove any potential food sources obviously, but the dryer sheets have worked like a charm for us for several years.
