my turn!

Ok after getting out and camping this weekend. First for us.
One of the first things we do after the 5er is set up and
ready to go is to get out the foldable chairs.
Out of SEVEN only FOUR ARE usable!
Our folding chairs are ranging from 20 dollar units
To 40 dollars one and they all seem like crap!

We have 3 colemans and as these are all in use yet the reason
why is cause there so uncomfortable NO ONE USES THEM!
My question is does anyone have a folding chair that is comfortable
and relatively inexpensive and holds up?
Seems to me the rivits and plastic couplers are what fail!

As far as I'm concerned, such a folding/collapsible chair doesn't exist.

We have folding chairs but they are not inexpensive. My father always said you get what you pay for. If you want a longer lasting chair you have to pay $$$ for them. If you buy cheap you get cheap. That what happens when you buy the China chair bombs.

We have 4 foldable rockers, 2 from JC Whitney which are comfortable, but just purchased 2 new ones from K Mart,brand name Northwest Territory. They were $45+ ea. and have a little higher back and are quite comfortable. I took pcs of treated 2x4 20" long and cut grooves in them so they will rock on gravel, sand, etc. Works great.

Ah....a subject near and dear to my heart. I went on a quest for 3 YEARS for the perfect camping chair. I bought all sorts of chairs during that period, tried them out for a bit, and then either sold them or relegated them to storage in the garage. Provided they stayed in one piece. I finally found one that comes "close."

It's from Cabela's, and it is the "director" type chair. Comes with a table that folds out. There are no rivets that rip through fabric, no bars underneath your legs that dig in, etc. I like this one because you sit straighter up, and don't slouch. It's easy to get into and out of, and that is very important, since I'm of short stature. It was pricey; I think I paid $40, but it is still in one piece, showing no signs of wear, and I've been using it for 3 or 4 years now. But look at it this way...you can buy one of those cheapo "bag" chairs for $8 and break it before the end of the season, or you can spend $40 and still have a chair 5 years later.

Same exact chair from Sportmans guide.
4 fit very comfortably above my 32 inch x 8ft folding picnic table in the "basement."

Got them on sale 3 years ago and L.O.V.E. them.

I'm 5'2 and my sister is 5'1 so both of us have trouble with our feet reaching the ground and being able to get out of those camping chairs that come in a bag. I brought a Coleman that was pricey even with it being oversized. That Coleman chair is comfortable but now I couldn't find it in the stores when I went to buy a couple of chairs in case of company.

"Craftsman" chairs on sale at K-Mart and/or Sears for approx $28 are the best folding camp/bag chairs I've found. They are very comfortable for larger folks (wide seat area) and are rated to hold up to 350 lbs. The frame tubes are substantial and the nylon fabric and stitching are heavy duty.

I love the Cabelas folding "recliners." They tilt back into a reclined position, have a strap bolster thing that you can either position as a pillow or a lumbar support, and the all-important cup holder. They run around $50 and are not what I would call easily portable, they fold up sort of like a steel folding table chair, no bag. It takes up some firewood room in the back of the truck, but worth every penny.

Are you referring to a zero-gravity chair or an anti-gravity chair? If you're vertically challenged, it makes it very difficult to get in/out of these and get them reclined. Plus, I don't want to be reclined all the time and I find it very difficult to use when you have a plate of food. Taller people seem to like them though.

Costco sells a wide director style chair with side table that is very sturdy and durable. Use them inside and outside my TT. Lightweight and easy to use. I think they are about $25.

We love our 'zero gravity' chairs - very comfy and easy to get in & out of. We don't go camping without them. Fold nice and flat - very easy to store.

I found I love the Bass Pro Shop Chairs, both the regular and antigravity chairs. I am not, by any means, a small person and they have stood up to a season and a half so far. My problem has been that the chairs from anywhere else break within a season or the seat starts saggin. I am also only 5'4" and getting out of a seat that sags is a "bleep, bleep, bleep"

Just got 2 Strongback folding chairs after reading reviews in Escapee's and CampingLife. If you sit in one of these chairs you will love the comfort and the simple design and high quality. They are rated for 300 lbs and designed for back confort. I have had a lot of folding camp chairs and this is so much better then anything that I have ever sat in. The person who reviewed it for Escapee's, I have meet him, told me that a 450 lb person sat in his in Quartsite and broke it and when he called the company they sent him a new one without seeing the damaged one and that he also knew of one that had been cut and the same thing they sent a new chair that was receive in 3 days without looking at the damaged chair. These are the chairs we are using now Deluxe Directors Chair- With Side Table | Chairs | Camp Furniture | Outbound and find them to be the best so far (have a basement full of the "folding-chair-in-a-bag" and other el-cheapo types, as well). They are what is referred to as a Directors Chair with folding sidetable, not exactly cheap but very well made. Website will take you to Canadian site but clicking on "dealer locator" will give U.S. dealers as well.
