Minneapolis Bridge Collapse

A bridge collapsed today in Minneapolis, MN. It was an Interstate highway, just as the rush hour traffic was waning. Death toll currently at 6 with many hurt.

Wow! This hit close to home. My brother and his family were about 5 minutes from being on the bridge when it went down into the Mississippi River today! They were backed up by traffic after it went down. Until they called us...we thought the worst tonight. (more gray hairs for Jolly!)

I've crossed that bridge...hundreds of times over the years. Very sad to see. Unbelievable really.

Being I'm in the Firefighting/Rescue/Medic business....when I see things like this happen...I just want to jump in the car and go help out!

I saw it last night....35W I believe. I was amazed at the chunks in the river with intact cars and people on them. Amazing that there were not more casualties.

I'm happy your brother and family wasn't caught up in it. Prayers for all involved heading from Texas.

Death toll dropped to 4, but they say 30-50 cars went into the river. Body count will surely climb...

How much does this actually effect traffic there? I understand about 140,000 cars a day traveled that way.

Traffic is a mess...

http://www.dot.state.mn.us/

Depends on time of day and day of week.

You can join in the congestion via the web, and the traffic CAMs
