Modern Times...Sad

This sign is a sad statement on the times we are living in. We are currently at a Missouri state park and all Missouri parks have an information board by the campground. The info board usually includes programs that will be presented at the amphitheater, tick warnings, camp rules, what to do during severe weather and emergency info. The new emergency info now includes what to do if there is a bomb threat, a suspicious person, or an active shooter in the park. What a sad world we have become.

The local Sheriff and city police have ask the public to stop calling #911 so much..... seems that it was to difficult to find the non-emergency police phone numbers and that this led to most everyone calling #911...... Now there is a public 're-programing' going on to NOT call #911...but to instead call #311..... and then you will be put on 'hold' and calls will be taken in the order received......

When I was a kid we had fire drills once a month at school. Now they have those plus intruder drills and lock down simulations. Sad indeed.
Edit: now that I think about it for a while we had drills at school where you'd go under your desk and cover your head in case of a nuclear attack from Cuba (that dates me).

But by the same token, we no longer have small pox, polio and if I press the front of my phone in the proper places and in the proper sequence, a pizza will appear at my door.

I remember the Duck and Cover Drills and the "Red Menace" As scary to us as kids then as the current situation. And life goes on

You are way behind! Now you can press a button on your sneakers and a pizza will arrive at your current location!

I was raised outside of Atlanta, near the airport, in a little town called Hapeville.

I remember the day the entire town, literally, lined up at the Recreation Center for Polio vaccinations. If you had the shot, you got a booster orally on a sugar cube. I was so happy to learn I would be getting a sugar cube. I asked for another. (I was about 4 years old)

I remember watching Huntley-Brinkley on a black and white TV.

I remember watching John Glenn's entire flight one day in Kindergarten.

I remember when one year car makers put the headlights on stacked one on top of the other instead of side by side and we all thought that was soooo cool!

You might want to clarify that comment. What (or who) are you referring to?

The sign is stupid, as is the general atmosphere of fear.

Completely agree. No better time to be alive, imo. I wouldn't trade it for any other time period. Sure, there are unfortunate events in our world. Always has been. With a 24/7 sensationalized news cycles, we just hear about them more.

Isn't it ironic that the Missouri Tourism slogan is "Enjoy the Show"!

Just shows how naive we were to think that a small desk would protect us from a nuclear attack.

I actually can beat that. I have an Amazon Echo, and I can just be there, sitting on my couch and say "Alexa, order me a pizza" and like magic, the pizza appears. I literally just have to make a few noises, and BOOM! I'm munching a pie.

BTW if you don't have an Echo, I can highly recommend them. I use the hell out of the thing.

Exactly! When I was a kid we had to get up off the couch to change the channels.
