Modifying That Damn Georgetown Hood Mechanism
I have fought with the hood on my 335DS ever since I bought it. It is bad enough that you can't reach the oil fill without building a pipeline, but just checking fluids forces you to be a contortionist. To make things worse, the two springs have a serious habit of disappearing and then it won't even open at all without someone holding it.
I looked at the mechanism and saw somewhere on this site where an OP had drilled out the dimples that act as stops and inserted removable clevis pins. For the life of me I tried to search for it again and virtually nothing I tried would get me there. So, if I had a hard time...everybody else will as well. Hence the title.
Drilled them out this morning and used a couple of 1/4 inch clevis pins from Lowes and finally I can get to everything (well not fantastic access, but decent access.) Removing the dimples also has the advantage of allowing the hood to open a few inches more as well.
Take a 1/4" drill and drill out the dimples and also enlarge the existing holes to 1/4" as well. Here is the mechanism before and after drilling. You might have to run the drill through as well when the holes are aligned since it ain't perfect with a 1/4" drill and a 1/4" pin.
Problem SOLVED!
