mouse in ceiling

We recently had a mouse or mice in the ceiling over our bed. We believe it got in where the roof is sealed to the body as you can see it is not airtight. Anyone know how to get rid of mice there without stinking up the coach? And how to prevent them in the future?

Had two in our new rig on the first trip out. Got a couple of the "glue traps" from WalMart, put some peanut butter in the center, took out one of the bottom drawers in the kitchen and put the traps on the floor. Caught one the next morning and the other a day later.

Peanut butter works best as bait. I've had better luck with traditional mouse traps; place along walls in pairs faced back-to-back.

The problem is, the mouse is in the ceiling--above the two layers of foam insulation, just below the roof covering. We have looked, but there is no way to get at this location to put a trap into.

They will smell the bait and make their way down. Give it a few days. You'll get'em.

We live in a rural area with lots of trees. It's a simple fact that when it turns cold, those mice are coming inside. We've had RVs for over 35 years. I use a combination of controls, mouse traps, poison and even one of those ultrasonic thingies. Yep, peanut butter works best for trap. I use the non molding poison from Tractor supply (Tomcat® All-Weather Bait Chunx, 18 lb. Pail of 1 oz. Chunx - Tractor Supply Co.). Don't know about them going outside looking for water to die. I don't really care because we are not in the camper during the winter. Also, we really give the kitchen area a good cleaning at the end of the season including the pantry. Also, remove your dish clothes because mice love to get in that drawer because the clothes retain the odor of food. Lastly, for some reason, some mice love some soaps. So we pull all the bar soap out of our RV over the winter. Also, watch out for squirrels...tree rats with long tails. They will get in places you don't want them a do a lot of gnawing damage. Pellet gun works good on them. Good luck.

We have 3 traps baited with peanut butter, if they are in the trailer, they will be caught. This year we also put in Fresh Cab packets, so far no mouse has ventured in. Have a look at Fresh Cab, I know a lot of people who swear by it.
