MPG. F250 question

Just got back from our first trip and am wondering about my mpg. My tv is a 2012 f250 6.2ltr gasser. 373 rearend 4x2 Crewcab. My tt is a 2013 Rockwood 2104S. 4800gvw. At 60-65 I got 8.5mpg. Seems a little low to me. Any thoughts ?

Hi,
I have 2011 F-250 SUPER DUTY 6.2L Gas 2WD SuperCab XL 3.73 rear / 158" WB / 8' bed. Factory anti-sway and brake controller.
City without trailer I get around 12.5
Highway with trailer I get around 10 - 11 MPG keeping under 65 MPH.
I am not sure but I think my Coachman is around 6500lbs.
Your mileage seems low unless you are going up alot of hills or mountains?

you have a gasser, your mileage will be low. The previous poster is posting mpg for a diesel. My diesel mpg mimics the above poster. my old armada got 13 mpg around town and 6-8 mpg towing, while this tells you nothing about your F250, it shows diesel and gasser mpg are apples to oranges.

I have the longer wheel base 8'bed 4x2. I'm on the gulf coast of Texas so hills are nil.

We get between 15 and 17 with our 4x4 CTD at 65 pulling our TT, which is pretty much what I like to refer to as a big-a## shoebox. Your mileage, even with being a gasser, seems kind of low. It'll never be great, and the only time we've ever checked our mileage was on our first trip, just out of curiosity. Because "it is what it is." And we knew going in it was going to take a lot of fuel to move it.from point A to point B.

I have the same truck truck with 4 wheel drive. I have not towed with it yet but I only get a little over 12 mpg without a trailer. However with my old truck, 07 Toyota Tundra, with the 5.7 engine I would only get between 8-9 towing. I expect to get the same with the Ford.

hand checked or computer? I have seen several people post 8-9 mpg towing figures for the 6.2 gas engine, but they were hauling 5ers that weighed a lot more.

I have the factory tow package with the 6 speed auto tranny. When I'm in the tow/haul mode I seem to spend a lot of time in 5th gear. Normal?

We are heading out on a 4000 mile trip in 2 weeks with our 6.2 and it will be a combination of flats lands and into the smokey mountains so I will update this thread with our numbers then.

I guess that I'll have to live with it, although I may talk with my friendly Forddealer and see if the chip is ok.

I have the same without cruise control, mine seems to like to be in 5th gear with even a slight upgrade. When on really flat stretches, it will switch to 6th. I will usually lock 6th out if it cannot make up it's mind.

Chip? What chip?
How many miles do you have on the engine?
How did you break it in?

I have an edge juice with attitude CTS and I really like it! No issues but I dont really hot dog it either. Tow mode I average a steady 10-11. on the race setting on the highway I can get between 15- and 16.5 MPG @ 65-72MPH.Some dealerships are scared about chips/programmers. Banks and Edge depending on make and model have the best reviews and equipment , IMO.

Edge Customer service is TOPS.

I was told that there is a computer chip that controls the engine. I guess it adjusts the injection , the timing and a few other things? I have about 6k miles. Old school breaking, take it easy for the first 500 mi. Did not do any towing and am pretty easy on the gas.

Factory piece may have taken a poop.
I'm a fan of Slam and Jam break ins for engines and tranny's.

I had a GMC 4x4 with the 5.3l. Went up to Moab a few weekends ago. Truck got an indicated 8.9mpg on the driver console and 8.3 mpg with manual computation. I sure as heck wasn't screaming up hills. It really struggled with the 2 motorcycles in the back and the gear in the truck.

I would not expect much better MPG with the 6.2. If you want to compare your MPG with others you will need many others to post because you can't go with just a few. You also can't go with just what your truck has, it should be checked by hand to verifty. Good Luck

2300 miles into our trip from Saskatchewan down through Tennesse with 14 hrs of mega head wind and rain one day we are averaging 8.33mpg hand calculated. I drive at 62 miles per hour in manual mode and hold the gears as long as the truck will maintain close to the speed limit. Most hills here in Tennessee required 4th.
