Mt. rushmore/yellowstone trip

What are the must see at these 2 Parks?Other than the usual tourist things to do ,what are the places or things out of the norm the that must be seen or done? Planning a trip there this coming summer and I would like to line stuff up now and figure it in to my plans.

If you haven't been there for the last 15 years or so (very slow progress) Crazy Horse Monument is worth the drive from Rushmore. They have pictures comemorating the completion of the face in 1998, and doesn't look much different today. Wayne

Custer State Park is nice. It's not too far from Mt. Rushmore. They have Bison roaming free and chances are high you'd see some if you drive through the park.

Crazy Horse is interesting. I doubt we'll see it completed in our lifetime though. Like Wayne said, they are super sloooooooow building that thing.

Gotta drive Iron Mountain road. very nice. drive through Custer SP on the way down to Hot Springs and check out the Hot Spring and the Mammoth Site. also do a drive through the Bad Lands. you really cant go wrong with anything in the hills. haven`t been to Yellowstone yet.

Have a great trip!

Didn't stop there, but in Custer Park, driving by, it looked like there was a super nice campground. Don't remember the name but sounded like some president's wife. Wayne

Very nice drive,

Even have a video commentary from the DW on the switch backs and narrow roads. She got pretty excited meeting trucks the size of ours in the middle of blind corners.

You have to go to Wall Drugs as well, the 1880 train geeze we stayed at the KOA resort on MT Rushmore for 7 days last june and never got to see everything. Sturgis if you like bikes, Deadwood and the list goes on.

Plan time for the Badlands Nat'l Park...they have camping there to. About 60 miles or so to the east of Rapid City.

I've stayed in Custer State Park and it's very nice with choices from the most rustic to high-class.
