mud dauber screens

The camper I ordered should be arriving at the dealer next weekend I hope.
I want to order mud dauber screens to fit the water heater, fridge, and furnace on a 2016 Rockwood minilite 2503S and put them on myself. Does anyone know which ones fit this model.

I bought the screens for the furnace ports but I just used the tightest hardware cloth I could find and aluminum tape to apply from the backside. Never had an issue.

very easy to make your own,..... using hardware cloth, for fridge vents---cut just over size and press into the long vent slots,...the cut metal ends around the edges will act like little barbs and hold forever,.......for hot water vents, cut to size then run a bead of caulking around the vent window inside and press the screen into the wet caulking, can use duct tape to hold in place until dried, afterwards you have a permanent fix

Make your dealer throw them in as part of the deal. It will only cost them a few dollars and they can install them prior to your PDI.

Camco makes them in many sizes. Inexpensive and they look and fit nice.

Yeah, that's what I thought, too. When we finished our PDI, they told us we had x amount of dollars credit in their store. We purchased the dauber screens, and they actually charged us $5.00 to install them! Two of them. Then when I saw them, I actually had to laugh. Two springs on one, one spring on the other. Come on, man! WTF?!? I also remember reading somewhere that if those daubers do get into those places they're not supposed to be, it can invalidate your warranty.

Hardly doubt it would void the warranty. If so then they should provide as standard equipment. Later RJD

Here, they build their dirt nests in every L shaped crook and cranny of the frame, underneath, spare tire, anywhere they can. I spend a billion dollars a year on wasp spray, and twelve million man hours with a stick breaking them up. We have a rock and cedar house.......and they build in the small parts of the batting on the cedar siding. No way to stay ahead of them in this area.

I had spiders get into my furnace vent once and due to the spider webs the furnace could not expel enough exhaust and would shut down the furnace on a cold night. Putting the screens over the vents prevented it from ever happening again.

I read somewhere recently that if you get a dog flea and tick collar, cut it in half, and put them in your outside water heater, furnace, and fridge access panels, it will keep the mud dobbers out. They apparently don't like the odor they give off.

If you hardly doubt it, read your manual. I know I read it somewhere; I didn't make it up. As soon as I'm off shift I'll read up and find it again.

Bought these from Amazon for our Rockwood 2306.

I'd say, just wait til you can measure your ports, and then order accordingly.

New to this forum and to Rving so hope I'm doing this right.

We're scheduled to take delivery of Crusader 315RST in about 10 days so find this thread very useful. Wondering if anyone does anything to cover these access holes to keep out road spray, dirt, and debris while towing down the road. Or is this overkill?

You made your post correctly. Congratulations!

If (and I say IF) any of these ports were on the front of a unit, your wondering/covering might be justified... but I don't remember ever seeing them on the front. With these ports on the sides and/or rear, it's unlikely anything "negative" would get in them. You might get blowing rain inside the water heater door when parked (or maybe when driving) but that won't hurt anything. IMO

I believe he meant that the dirt daubers in appliances would void the warranty, not putting protective screens on.

If im the manufacturer and going to warranty something on an rv, im not going to cover damages caused by bugs or other stuff that could have been prevented (like cotton wood, cotton clogging up a condenser on an a/c unit).
Thats my take, and manufacturers for the most part.

My 29RE has a Suburban furnace and hot water heater. I used some metal screen wire to block the dirt daubers on both right after bringing the camper home. It didn't matter to the water heater, but the furnace would not work correctly. This was the first time I had used it, so I grabbed the manual and started reading.....found a paragraph in the manual stating that the outside air vents must be kept clear or the unit would malfunction. So, I went back outside, removed the screen wire, and tried the furnace again. Worked perfectly this time. So, I guess I'll try the larger round ones like the picture in dave's post. That was my experience with homemade dirt dauber screens.
