Question Mud Flaps

Hey, anyone out there put the full width mud flap across the back of their truck to prevent nicks and stone damage to TT. Going to Alaska this June and want to prevent damage. Is it worth the cost?? What kind did you get?

I just use the Rock Tamers.

Not full width but they do a fine job.

I take it that you use them as well.

Tough part was putting the RT logo on, power drill with a bit tip made it so much faster.....

Added weight would overload my Silverado.

Besides that, it is lowered in the back and doesn't throw crap on the 5er.

tclark going to Alaska, Nice! for sure put some sort of mud flap on your truck to prevent stone damage and also be prepared to lose a windshield in your veh. from others that don't have them !!!

I put these on my silverado 3500. Got them cheap at autozone. Easy to install and work pretty well. Sorry about the pics, it's a dark rainy night here tonight.

I have a deal that I made myself.
It's a piece of angle iron that spans the full width of the truck.Attached (bolted) to that is what's called Hula Skirt. It's the same tough nylon "mudflaps" that UPS uses on it's long haul trailers.I got mine from JC whitney.
It attaches to the hitch with a 2"-female that's welded to the angle iron-dead center.
IBC Brush-type Splash Guard/Mud flaps
Mine is just like this.It might weigh 5 #.I use it all the time and it's 15 yrs old.PS-this one is a deal-buy it and never regret it.

Check for hitting the trailer. I had a set on my previous Ram dually, but sold them because if the flaps were extended far enough to cover the outside dual, the ends of the bars would contact the front of the 5th wheel on really sharp turns. I figured a few stone chips were better than poking a big hole. Could you cover the front of the trailer with some vinyl stone guard film?

I have a 07 Tundra pulling the 2015 Flaggstaff Vlite 30wrliks. The front of the TT's V nose is almost on the hitch. TT will probable hit my truck before mud flap if i turn to sharp. Just thinking stones will do more damage being the nose of TT is so close. I need to check into some type of wrap for lower front of TT also.

Spend the money for the rock tamers. We did the Alaska trip. Don't worry too much about the windshield. No more risk that traveling in the US. If your flaps are not within 1" of the pavement, they may be protecting your pickup, but not your camper. Ours was sandblasted pretty good all across the front of the front storage bay. Nothing noticeable from a distance, but if you run your hand across the finish it felt like a scratchy pad.

Have made the trip to AK twice. Got back from the last one in July. ALL the roads in and out of AK are well paved unless they're doing road work, of course. Where you will find dirt/rock roads are from Dawson to (via Chicken) Toke; up and over the Taylor Highway (Top Of The World Highway)...awesome scenery...
and intermittently on the Cassiar Highway...roughly White horse to Prince George.
Other than that, yes mud flaps are great to have. I put them on my 2011 Ford F-350 Dually shortly before this last trip.
