Glad you enjoyed the trip ... we've stayed there and it's a great place. The gardens down the road are really nice too.

Down here in Florida our camping season never ends but we camp most of the time north of here, we just returned home last Wednesday and enjoyed the cooler weather. A campfire was necessary and we plan on going again just after Christmas.

My council to you is that if you can get away, prepare for cold weather and winter camping is just a lot of fun.

RV Season over...

Hmm, I can answer this question rather easily. We were at Skidaway Island State Park in September for two glorious weeks. The last 4 days we were there, Hurricane Florence decided to make landfall not too far north of us. End result, last few days of our trip was pretty much ruined. Now, beginning the middle of October, we had a 35 day trip planned that included 4 stops beginning outside Montgomery, Alabama, and ending with a wonderful two week stop at Topsail Hill State Park in Florida. End result...3 days before we were to leave for the start of our trip, we were contacted by Topsail Hill Campground that Hurricane Michael had done significant damage to the park and they were closed indefinitely. They refunded our money. Consequently, we had to cancel our other camping stops because of the way they fell within our scheduled trip. Now, depression starts to set in. LOL. Finally, we decided to go to DeSoto State Park in Alabama for a weeks stay in early November. We left home in 60 degree weather and sunshine. Got to DeSoto with temps in the 40's. We knew it would be colder because we had checked the weather. But then the rain set in while we were setting up camp. And it rained...and rained...for the entire 7 days it rained and temps stayed in the 30's to 40's. Wet, cold, miserable. Worst 7 days of camping we have ever been on. We came home, winterized the RV, and said "forget it." Holidays are upon us, so we will start again next year. We laugh about it all now, but it was truly a disastrous year for RV-ing for us. It could have been much worse, though. Our hearts went out to all the ones who lost loved ones and those who lost everything they owned because of these two catastrophic hurricanes. We are hoping for a "smooth sailing" year of Rv-ing in 2019. We wish all our fellow campers out there a very Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!!

This can often be the norm for a camping trip in WA State. When I was a kid our family had some great camping trips that were like this. Got out the huge tarp, strung it up between trees, got fire going, and had a ball. If it got cold, the fire got bigger.

As I grew older, and alcohol got added to the mix, more than a few cold weather trips involved copious quantities of wine and various 'additives' to the coffee. Someone always brought a chainsaw and splitting maul so fires were well fed.

Made me go back thru the pics just to see how much camping we squeezed in this year around those dang FT jobs. We managed to get out overnight for 45 nights on 13 different trips! Glad to be in FL so we can camp year round and we will spend New Years Eve out at a campground for the final icing of 2018.
Sad when we lost one of our camping pups so gonna remember the Roxie on this thread with a couple of the last pics taken with her while camping this year.
Looking forward to 2019!
