In reality there are 4 good months to visit MB for those without school agers. Apr/May and Sept/Oct. Both periods are off season so prices are lower and the area is a lot less crowded. Sept/Oct is best as the ocean temps are still warm while Apr/May the temp is still quite cool. I live a short distance from there and almost never go down, just too crowded. Nice place to visit.

The new water park in Ocean Lakes should be open around Memorial Day I'm not much on water parks but the kids are.

Thanks radman and Captnjohn. We did our first trip to MB last year and stopped 1/2 way so I convinced the wife to drive straight through leaving 4 or 5 in the morning. I'm not sure I could make it on my own leaving the night before. We will be stopping 1/2 way on the way home (KOA in VA) thinking we won't be modivated to get up early to leave.

For me, it's a 12 hour drive straight through. I stop in VA somewhere.

Highs in 60s now, but woke up here one February with a few inches of snow. Loved it.

Had to leave Ocean Lakes a day earlier than planned in Jan. 2014 as the overnight low was predicted to be 16! It would have been impossible to winterize the 5th wheel as the water drains would have been frozen closed. We did have some nights in the 20's this last Jan. but when it was time to winterize and come home it was in the upper 50's.

You are fortunate. My wife would never drive pulling anything. She always drive my trucks until December when I brought home the F250. Thinking she would pull the 5er with a truck she will not drive brings a smile!

DW will drive my truck not pulling anything but will not pull the camper. When we had the small travel trailer she would pull it out west but not with the fifth wheel

My wife, Renée, has towed the Wildcat 66 miles, across the flat lands of Nebraska. That's it for her unless an emergency. Don't ask her to hook up the fifth wheel to the truck. She will call on one of you camper buddies to do that😅

Glad to see I'm not alone. She is always ready to go, but not drive.

Sorry guys, I reread my post and I see where you thought I meant my wife would drive part of the way. Actually my wife hates sitting in the car for long trips so I just had to convince her to sit in the truck for approx 11 hours straight through to myrtle beach. I actually bought her a dvd player to watch movies while I drive. Happy wife happy life.

Last year I did finally get my wife to practice driving the truck with the camper in the school parking lot. As someone else said it would only be for an emergency. She did well and I think she could do highway driving no problem.

The good news for us is I love to drive. I would much rather sit behind the wheel than in the passenger seat twiddling my thumbs. Funny thing, that makes my wife very happy.

Exactly. I'm driving the whole trip.

As for driving down all the way on a long run. Myrtle Beach is only 3-4 hours for us. The only long trip we do is Fort Wilderness. That's 9-10 hours. We like to stop somewhere on the way down around southern Georgia. That's about 5-6 hours. It starts the excitement early. Then the following morning, we continue on and arrive at Disney around noon.

But coming home, its hammer down all the way. Just want to get home.

Well, I did it again. Our favorite state parks are still closed for awhile. So I thought, what the heck. Just reserved Ocean Lakes again for the weekend March 11-13. This will be the first trip for the new camper. We'll try to go through as much stuff as we can on the camper beforehand at home but this will be the first campground visit.

I now have two reservations to Ocean Lakes and one to Fort Wilderness. Funny thing is, we still don't have the camper!

I plan to go to North Myrtle Beach soon and eat and buy 100 gallons of diesel, we will be at FT Fisher not far away. I like Ocean Lakes, last time I went I saw a FROG member there and got to meet some people that had Creeks
