Mystery Dangling Wire
Walking back to our 2017 Salem 27RKSs across a Walmart parking lot, I noticed a long, white wire on the ground. It had broken loose from somewhere but the other end was attached to the frame near the front of the trailer. It is obviously a ground wire for something. Everything in the trailer works fine. Before I turn the unit over to the dealer for 2 to 3 weeks, would anyone who also owns this unit be able to tell me where the free end of this ground wire should go? Thanks for lookin'.

I would first check to make sure all clearance and marker lights along with tail lights and brake lights are working. If ground probably for one of them.

Thanks, but all lights work as they should. Can't find a thing that doesn't.

Do you have tank level indicators? do they work? That would have a wire going from the holding tank to the control panel.

Looking forward you can see the wire terminates at the back of the frame cross member. I wrapped it around the frame so it won't drag on the ground. It's about 6 feet long.

Hmm. I don't know but if you have a good relationship with the service department at your dealer I would share the pic with them. They might give you the answer.

Ground for the trailer brakes? Make sure your trailer brakes are working!

Brakes work fine. Headed to the dealer tomorrow. Just hoped to find someone with the same trailer.

That wire is either bonding the frame to the 12v ground side of the system -or- it is providing a ground to something else via the frame which has been bonded to ground somewhere else.
Either way, you should try to find where it goes.
If you unwrap the wire and stretch it in several directions (likely along the frame) maybe you'll see where it once tied in.

Yeah, did the wire stretch. Leads to nothing. The top of the photo shows where I patched two rips in the underbelly plastic with gorilla tape. First thought they were the results of the wire flopping around before I noticed it. Now I wonder if the wire goes somewhere through one of those rips. Seems like an unlikely way to route a wire, though.

Thanks for all the great ideas. The trailer is now in the hands of the dealer. It's a warranty issue anyway. Good thing we have nothing planned for the next few weeks as they say they are 3,4 weeks out. I will report back on where the mystery wire belongs.

Did someone else deliver it for you? I have seen the white wire thing on mobile home frames after they've been delivered. Grounding for the tow vehicle.

Interesting. We bought it from a dealer. No idea how it got there.
