NASCAR...First Timer. Wow What a Trip!
NASCAR……I never cared for it. Thought it was stupid and dumb. Attended my first “Event” this weekend in Kansas with some friends (Rv in Tow) and I am officially 100% without a doubt a fan. I really cannot say enough how impressive the overall package was. We stayed at the Richmond campground (west of the track) and arrived on Friday at around 2pm. The place was already full when we pulled in. Minus multiple attempts at backing up….and a small failure of the “Fast Way Flip Foot” Everything went well. I took 5 other guys with me for one hell of a party. Felt like I was in college again! The campsite was really just a field and there were no utilities…..I purchased a Yamaha 2400IHC that performed flawlessly and used less than 2 gallons of gas them from Friday until Monday. The Facilities were nice…portable shower houses and portable toilets that were cleaned 2 times a day. My neighbors were not as considerate…2 sites away was a group from Iowa that had a 10,000 watt construction generator that was so obscenely loud that at one point a group of fellow campers went over and shut it off and started a nice little soap opera that lasted through the weekend. The real action kicked off after the sun went down. Man….what a spectacle. We were able to see both the truck and sprint car races.
The camper was a bit dirty on Monday morning…considerably lighter after all the beer and food was consumed…..I did however make a few important ant discoveries. First…traveling with a full water tank hurts. I averaged over 2 mpg better on the way home empty than on the way out. Second…it’s the perfect method to attend Nascar weekends.
I have attached some photos….

Now you need to try the Knoxville, IA Sprint Car Nationals. 4 nights of real sprint cars turning laps on a flat dirt track in 12-13 seconds. No doors, fenders, radios, just cars with 410 cid engines flat out! They never lift the throttle. And the best part of it, the whole town gets behind the races. Very friendly!

And I thought f1100turbo was coming out here to Concord to see NASCAR & the World of Outlaw Sprint Cars next month. He could sell some split wood to finance the trip out and we have a real cheap B&B.
p.s. also free pick up & delivery from the Charlotte airport.

We have gone to various nascar races since 1993. It is really a good camping trip. We have gone to all the tracks around and in the Carolinas and Florida and we are only 60 miles from TMS. and have season tickets. Glad to hear you enjoyed your first race.I learned to forget the "JERKS" and remember all the good folks you meet.

For just as much fun and a whole lot closer and in your faced try National Tractor Pull events, 300' of track right at your feet, and pure power throwing dirt and walking on their rear legs (read tires).

For horsepower, ZMAX in Charlotte, just ended. 4 wide top fuel dragsters. 32,000 horsepower. Makes a P51 Mustang look like a Cessna

windrider; Now take 4 and even 5 of your top fuel motors and put them on one machine all geared together and unleash them all at once and that's what you've got with the unlimited division of National Tracor pulling. The ground literally shacked from the pounding.

Been there, have pulled mini hot rod class, one motor 1750 pounds. Got old and quit. Father in law pulls antiques still, lot less maintenance and up keep, and a lot cheaper.
As for the shaking the ground, nothing like a P-51 Mustang either, watching in taxi out and take off. Hard to imagine 20 or more in a dog fight.

windrider; LOVE the 3-4 unlimited pullers that use the P-51 motors, one puller even uses 3 on one tractor 2 side by side and the third on top inbetween. WHAT A SOUND!!!

If you have the chance be sure and hit NASCAR when it's at Talladega. What an awesome track. Super steep banks and wide open all the way around. Been there twice and it is flat out racing. 3 & 4 wide a times. We're looking to go to Chicagoland in September. Has anyone been there and done that?

Those are blown alcohol motors on the tractors. Impressive but nowhere near the power of blown nitro motors. I've been on the starting line at Bandimere Speedway watching top fuel and that is a crazy feeling with 16,000 HP shaking the ground. Some friends of mine were at the 4-wides in Charlotte and said it was amazing!!
