"New" 2016 price

I am looking for a mid bunk 5th wheel. I'm likely going to have to purchase new since this is a popular new floorplan.

I found a new 2016 Palomino Sabre 365MB. It has been sitting on the dealer lot for nearly three years. In fact, this dealer has a lot of new 2016s on the lot. Many are sitting there just kinda forgotten. I found rust on screws on the exterior of many of the 5th wheels and toy haulers. RVs are this dealer's first priority.

We sat down and talked numbers and the dealer wants to take $2000 of the sale price. I'm looking at NADA values and the dealer is still asking $4000 over good price.

So my question is, am I out of line offering $7000 off their asking price of 38k? It's just sitting there. Also, they're saying FR is not honoring the 2 year warranty posted in writing on all materials in the trailer and only honor a one year warranty. Is this true?

Im willing to walk from this deal and buy somewhere and something else. It's a very nice unit but considering it's been sittinfg in the sun just baking away, I don't feel the dealer is being realistic.

Dealers sale price is 38k. The dealer originally listed this unit at 40,500.

I just realized that they changed the price on RV Trader after I found this model and contacted them. They listed it at 36,500 Thursday. After we looked at it on Saturday, the price jumped up $4000.

Yeah, I think I will. They want to charge $3700 for dealer destination (Elkhart to Southern California).

It's too bad. It's a nice 5th.

The sealants, roof vents, shower skylight etc have baked too. I would be cautious, We have a dealer up here like that has a brand new 2016 Columbus with no money off, of course new ones have gone up in price too. Kind of a crap shoot. Best of luck which ever way you go.

I'd not touch this with a stick.

The 2020 trailers will be for sale in May or June so this 2016 model is 4 years old. (A 2016 trailer could have been made as early as May 2015.) And has been sitting out in the weather all this time. Plus it has 4 years sitting on that lot with probably hundreds of people tramping thru and possibly (probably) trashing it.

There are reasons it didn't sell. Over priced is just one.

Yes, the warranty thing is true. Even though it came with a 2 year warranty, back in 2015/2016, it has to do with WHEN the new RV is sold. Since it's way past the date FR dropped the 2nd year additional warranty, it will only get the original 1 year factory warranty.

And, as a former California resident, I saw West Coast dealers inflate their delivery costs constantly. They attempt to make a profit, not only on the rig, but the shipping costs also.
That's why we drove to Chicago and back, for our new HTT, because of these practices. West Coast dealers know most won't make the drive to save money. We saved a lot of money, even after trip costs.

Couches Rv in Hamilton(Cincinnati) has a 19 on the lot for I would assume under $40,000. No BS destination charges.

I would think a 2016 would go for well under $30,000.

Call Couches. Brandon I think was our salesman.

We bought ours and picked it up a month later. (a CC Hathaway) Party all the way back to home.

The OP lives in California. So there will be destination charges if Couches ships it to California.

It's an unsold, 4 yr old, "new" 5th wheel, there is a reason why it hasn't sold and it isn't the 5th wheel.
How much does a 4 yr old trailer depreciate? Start at those numbers.

That's what I'm trying to figure out. The problem is, I'm having a hard time finding a way to calculate the depreciation. Do you have a suggestion?

Have you gone to NADA?

look at rv trader.com to see what used ones are selling for and decide how much more your 4 year old "new" one is worth. Gotta remember it is 4 model years old and your resale when you sell is going to suffer.

No one under it is sitting there sounds like a bad dealer that looks for suckers and doesn't want to move units.

Good suggestions above. I'm in CA and got a 'best' price from our closest dealer. Went shopping on line and found our same MH in TX for $9000 cheaper. So I drove to
TX for $9000. Spent $1000 doing that. Went to the TX dealer web site just now and put in 5th wheels. Here's what popped up. https://www.mhsrv.com/5th-wheels/ Use this as a guide.

It seems like a no brainer to me, it’s his camper, offer a price if he wants to sell okay if not buy from somewhere else. It’s four years old it looks like since he is paying interest on the camper he would want to move it. But in the end it’s his. If you buy the camper from somewhere else and you need warranty work you can forget asking that dealer. Most dealers will give a better deal if you don’t trade anything in. Personally I would look somewhere else

I can buy that floor plan in numerous other FR brands for less than or the same brand new.. 4 years old so I am sure: The tires are rotted, they've never kept up on the seals and seams so now how long (if not already) you've got water damage. Appliances have been sitting for 4 years unused so I am sure they have more than a few cob webs.

You need to take the emotion out of this, you like the brand (I assume) and the floor plan... But from a disinterested party, it is old, and out dated for the pricing they want. Would you buy a "New" car that was 4 years old sitting on the dealer's lot? We are in the mecca of RV sales right now with literally thousands of RV to choose from.. Find something newer, better and more in the price range your looking to spend, there is one out there.

do some homework, print out comparable prices on new 2019 and used same year from other dealers and private parties.

Show the dealer your listed comparables, then make an offer based on these real numbers of real 5th wheels...

If they go for it, then make sure you spend a lot of time with a friend and a ladder inspecting the camper on the lot with a flashlight looking for possible moisture problems, on the roof and inside... bring a tank of propane and hook it up to test the appliances...

include in the price the $$ for replacement tires, as most people change out tires after 5-6 years tread wear or not...

hopefully you get a deal... and you will ONLY get a one year warranty...

I can't help but wonder why this dealer "has a lot of 2016s on the lot". Those should have been long gone. There are many reasons not to buy this unit, which have been mentioned above. Only reason to buy would be a ridiculously screaming good deal. But if they are moving that slow, this dealer must not be doing much dealing or they would be gone. To me this would be considered a 4 year old used unit.
