New camper advice
Wife and I are going to look at two units on Monday. One is a 15 Cherokee grey wolf 29bh, and the other is a 16 wildwood 282qbxl. Second time looking at them. Looking for any opinions about either of these units, and also looking for advice on purchasing a new camper.

Remember. Pick the one you want. You are the only ones you have to please. Also in the deal. Get every thing you can. Including a WDH, and brake controler. If they want to sell, They will throw one in.
Also For a brake controller. thje Prodigy is possibly the best. Even if you have to pay some extra.
Carefully match the TV to the TT. Don't get more TT than you have TV.

I have a brake controller already. We are reading in our old camper. May I ask what a wdh is? Thanks for the advice.

Research your price on RVtrader and other sites. Find the lowest price and make an offer from that. If financing see what you local CU or bank offers for rates. I saved close to $5000 on our current fiver by driving 130 miles.

I have done a lot of looking and even checked with couches rv and they quoted a lower price than any I had seen. So that is where I planned on starting with negotiations. Honestly the prices we have been quoted already are pretty good so we don't have to work them down much. I will ask for a new wdh though. Thanks tande!

We originally looked at entry level stick & tin bunk houses in the $20K / 8,000 lb/ (empty) range but lengthy research led us to buy a higher quality used unit with aluminum & fiberglass construction for about the same price. Our PT Tracer 3150 has 2 slide-outs, an outdoor kitchen, and still weighs less than 6,500 empty w/empty hitch weight of 650.
The kids love having a large bunk room slide-out & I love the larger outdoor kitchen w/2nd entrance to the bathroom. Loaded for a 2 week trip it weighs 8,000 w/tongue weight of 1,200 - so still truly 1/2 ton towable vs. heavier choices...
Ours was less than 3 years old & looked like new with no signs of previous water leaks. However, the dealer included a free pressurized leak test & re-caulking, adjusted all slides & awning, replaced the CO2 detector & battery and included a free WDH & 2.5 hour PDI - addressing all of our concerns before we drove it off the lot. We have now camped for 2 seasons without any serious issues compared to friends who bought new & spent their first year having warranty work done...
Someone is offering a (similar to ours) 2014 PT Lacrosse 318 BHS on this forum for $24K but you could see if they would accept around $22K. If you have good credit the bank will finance it for $0 down with payments less around $180 /month...

if they "throw stuff in", that just means you are paying too much. Nothing is free. Giving you stuff means there was more room for negotiating a better price. You can buy better accessories cheaper yourself.

I disagree. We bought our used TT from a local reputable dealer for less than we could buy the same year/model on CL or RVTrader... They lowered the price on our used unit because they dropped new units to wholesaler prices for a big sale event. The folks who traded it in took the hit, not us or the dealer... The weather had improved & they were also getting all of their trade-ins from RV Show sales. IMO their goal was to get them off the lot ASAP...
They buy WDHs in bulk & already have a fully staffed service department. The 2.5 hour prep & pressure test/caulking followed by a 2.5 hour PDI just meant some other dude's warranty work was pushed-back another day... The dealer isn't out anything & I got a TT that has been trouble-free for 2 years...
As for accessories, I talked them into giving me $100 of store credit vs. including cheap accessories or stuff I could buy cheaper at Walmart/Amazon. I then returned on a later date when they had something I actually wanted on sale...
Regardless, if you get a trouble-free unit (new or used) you are money-ahead. Just look at how many folks on this forum are unhappy with their purchases... I got the dealer to spend over 5 hours prepping my unit which is more than you get buying new... Just sayin'...

Well we decided on the 2016 wildwood 282qbxl. I feel like we got a good deal as i did a lot of research and we ended with a price we were comfortable with. So now that we have it I am going to need to figure out how to keep my 1 year old in one of the bunks. Anyone have any ideas for that? Thanks for the advice everyone!

Don't know about a one year old, but I used a toddler bed rail (kind of like this: http://www.walmart.com/ip/DEX-Safe-S...ingMethod=p13n) to keep my 3 and 4 year olds in their bunks.

IMHO, I would talk them out of the Chinese tires that come on it. It's a much bigger deal than you realize for now. I will never drive another unit off the lot with "China bombs" on it. Again, just my opinion from my experience.

Have them do a leak check with slides in and out before taking it off the lot. I only say this from a bad experience.
