New Generator

Has anybody used a Champion Power Equipment 73536i 2,000 Watt 4-Stroke Gas Powered Portable Inverter Generator. The price is great & at 53Dba it's quieter than the Honda. I am looking for something to freshen up the batteries while we are 4-wheeling & to run the heated mattresses. Thx for the input. Here is link:

there are literally hundreds of posts here about Champion generators.
and at RV.net Tech Issues section, there are thousands of them.
any quick Google search will bring up enough reading, to keep you occupied for the next 6 months.

they have been around for a number of years and are a proven product.
there are a couple of companies that sell refurbished ones, for even less than the Amazon price.

We bought ours a few weeks before Christmas at Cabela's for $429 on sale and using a coupon . I did alot of research and think we made the right purchase. We have 2 generators and the parallel kit for the price of 1 Honda or Yamaha. That said, i haven't used them for camping yet

like i said, thousands of posts/threads about it there.
i don't think you can say it's quieter than a Honda. nearly all real world comparisons say the Champion is slightly louder and a different type of sound, than the Honda.

I have the Champion 2000 and highly recommend it. It may not be quieter than a Honda, but it is just as quiet. They are both rated at 53 db.
It is very easy to start, sometimes it takes 2 pulls to start, but usually just 1 pull.
At half the price of a Honda and the same warranty, you can go wrong.

My experience with a Champion 2000 was not good,,bought it from Amazon and never got it running right. Always very hard to start. Couldn't find a local authorized dealer for warranty and ended up at a regular small equipment shop. Too much $$ and still wouldn't work. Finally gave it away and bought two Hondas. FWIW, find a local repair shop to service whichever one you choose before you buy.

I had a similar bad experience with a Champion genny. Bought the 3100 inverter on Amazon in August, didn't work right out of the box (leaked gas out the carb,) had carb replaced by local Champion warranty shop in September, still didn't run right, finally sent it back to Champion directly end of October. They replaced the carb again and the control board. It now seems to run right, but I won't know for sure until I use it this spring. Kudos to them for stepping up, paying for return shipping, and getting it back to me in (what appears to be) working condition.

Thx for all for the info/input. After countless hours of research, reading reviews, & YouTube videos I have decided to go with the Champion Power Equipment 73536i 2,000 Watt 4-Stroke Gas Powered Portable Inverter Generator. It will do everything I need it to & do it very quietly. Now on to the PUG's. I think I am going with the Very High Wind version.

I hate to say it I looked at the Champion when I got a notice from the rangers at New Melones Res in Calif They said my generator was to loud. So I went searching for a new one. I have been a Honda guy from the early 60's (then I went Ford, Harley, John Deere and Honda in that order) but Honda has always been reliable so I decided on the Honda EU3000 Inverter. I know Champion comes from China and may be quite but in my book Honda is very reliable and very quite. I went back to Melones and the ranger was happy and I was allowed to run the Honda all night on slow mode if I needed. At $1989.00 delivered last year it was worth the buy. That just my two cents for what it's worth.

One more thing if you run a micro wave or a roof top air a 3000 watt is much better. Just saying

Weird was yours a 2000? The Champion 2000 is 53Dba same as Honda of same size. We're we camp we don't have to worry about neighbors. Have never used the air conditioner & microwave is a storage cabinet. Thx for input. Something for me to look further into.

I have a Champion 3500/4000 (Canadian version; not an inverter). Powerful and starts easy, but a bit heavy and too loud for campground use (a bit too loud even for NASCAR infield camping we've found) but I got it fairly inexpensive). Starts easy, year-over-year, usually just one pull.
Anyone with real world experience with these Powerhouse brand 2100PRI units through etrailer.com?
Powerhouse Professional Series PH2100PRi 2,100-Watt Inverter Generator - Portable - Gas - 120 Volts Powerhouse Generators PH69271

Looks like a nice compromise on price ($640 US$ ON SALE w/free shipping in US) and noise.

I know the Honda is a bit pricy. I ordered mine from Babbitt's Honda Feb, 2013 for $1949.00 delivered. The reason I wanted the Honda was because of the reliability, quite and the two stage running setup it has. You can run this in ECO mode which is so quite you don't hear in in the trailer. Then the regular mode is for running the air or micro at the same time when needed (it's been very hot in Calif. lately) and you can stand next to it and hold a normal conversation. I believe it's better to have enough power than not enough so you don't blow breakers or fuses because of an overload. Another nice thing this Honda is there is a remote starter system you can order and install on the EU3000. (Honda EU3000is Generator Wireless Remote Start Kit). I did my own install and it works great when your in the trailer and you want to use the microwave you just grab the remote and push the button to start and push another button to stop without having to go outside when cooking indoors. It even has a button for the choke for cold weather starting. Best investment I've made for my 5th wheel. Also I set it up in case I have a power outage here at the house. I can run the whole house on 3000 watts.

Hi, Just wanted to put my two cents in. I just bought a lifan 5600 inverter generator it is 5500 watts and 28 Amp. so it can run my 30ft. V-Lite camper. I have not tried it yet on the camper because of the weather but I have run it. It is 59db California approved and National Park approved. It also has a great sine wave so you can use your computer and other sensitive products. The only thing is that it weights about 180lbs. and it is taller than the bed of my truck which is where I want to keep it so I will have to figure out something else. I did want to tell you that I got it on Ebay for less than $1200.00 by bidding, you can also buy it out right for $1599.00 on Ebay. I hope this may help you.

Not sure it will work for you .

I remove the wheels and the nose stand of mine so it sits right at bed height, no problems making a turn.

That is a good deal and a nice generator lots of wattage and then some for the 30 footer. It's perfect for what you have. I had the same issue with the generator clearing the bed of my truck and yes I will admit the first time I took it out I had it on the back at the tailgate. Of course I had to make a tight u-turn and crunched the cowling on the BRAND NEW GENERATOR (%^%$%) So I learned even though the thing weighs 180lbs full of gas I now put it up next to the tool box forward of the hitch and chain it in the back of the truck. Now I don't have any problems with theft or crunching the thing. By the way it wasn't so bad I couldn't fix it still looks brand new.

I am sorry Boondocking for any misunderstandings. When I was reprimanded by the New Melones Reservoir Ranger for running a loud generator it was a little well maintained Onan 1400 watt. I did not have a Champion.

I really don't think there was a problem with the noise of the generator. I think someone had a bad night this was 0800 in the morning. Needless to say the only reason I stay in pay campsites is because the little women refuses to camp in the wilderness with no hookups. So me and the dog go on fishing trips without her. Oh the peace and quite.

Boondocking,

I see you list LED lighting on your signature. Do you have an outlet that sells the LED replacements cheep? I have been looking to replace the standard bulbs with LED but the cost is outrageous.
