New Mexico Balloon Festival

Today, October, 18, 2016, is the first day to reserve a site at the 2017 Balloon Festival. I went to reserve a Premium site but found all the weekend sites completely booked. How can this be? What experience have others had on getting a hooked up site?

Bob, you can't make reservations until yesterday.

Scheinin, I'm hoping it's a bug. I can't find anything available at all for a Standard site this morning.

When I go to https://online.rezexpert.com/book?business_code=303488 and move the calendar to Oct 2017, the only weekend I see open is the last one. During the week is still open for pretty much anything. Also, if you can dry camp, it's all open for 2017.

You might try calling the casinos in the area. Some have hookups. Most have (or had in the past) specials for RV camping and then shuttles to the event.

Here's one thread about where to stay away from the balloon park: https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopi...ew_Mexico.html

Sigh, the calendar loaded this year. I never switched it to next year.

The registration website is definitely not intuitive and is hard to navigate!

The good news is - I made a 2 week reservation in a "standard" site.

For those that have been to this festival, can you tell me how practical it is to book a premium site during the week, and then move to a standard site on the weekend.

Can you give me any more advice in attending the festival. Your experience is much appreciated.

I haven't been but we all most took a job a job there that would've had us staying till the 1st of Oct. The lady at the CG I called told me that if we were there during the event we would have to pack up and leave because all their sites are booked a year ahead, and require all the monthly folks to vacate during this time.

We follow this couple on their RV lifestyle and they just spent 9 days at the Balloon Festival. They have great videos about the whole thing. It might be helpful to pull up a map of the Festival to figure out where they stayed, where the Premium sites are, etc.

Click on Videos and they will sort by Date.

If you're looking for a budget site, a couple of years ago, we went for the Balloon Festival, stayed at San Felipe Casino. They have RV parking with electrical hookups for $20./night.

Check out Sandia Casino. It's a few miles away but should not be a problem if you have a toad.

We visited this year and stayed at the KOA North. It is about 10 miles up the freeway. About half the park was getting up at 0 dark 30. Hit the road by 5:00 to avoid traffic. We parked at a gas station across the freeway and next to the casino. Nice view from there. We only had one day and had to hit the road so did not want to go inside the park. Maybe next time.
