I recently upgraded from a 24 foot TT (4,300 lbs dry) with no slides to a 35 Foot Forest River Wildewood with two slides (7,3000 lbs dry). I was pulling it with a Dodge Ram 1500 4.7 ltr V-8. I just bought a new Ram 1500 5.7 ltr Hemi V-8. The salesman said the upgraded 3.92 rear axel ration would increase my max towing to 10,300…I don't know much about this…any truth to the new rear axel ratio increasing my towing that much? It will help, but always go by the GVWR for your vehicle. The 3.92 axle ratio will help when towing, especially when accelerating.

The lower gears will make it tow better, but doesn't really make your truck stronger. Your axle is still the same strength and meant for a 1/2 ton, and your suspension is still the same 1/2 ton springs.

Yes it will. Ram has embraced the SAE J2807 towing standards and all models of their trucks to meet this towing requirement. Some of the Ram trucks have had their towing weights reduced and most had their towing weights increased due to this new SAE standard.

Ram has also redesign the suspension system on the trucks in the last couple of years which will help you also.

What you should know is that the Rims and Tires are always the weakest link on any truck and the tire load rating should never be exceed on any vehicle.
