New Yamaha EF 2000iS Generator ordered!

Just bought our first Travel trailer (2013 Forest River Shockwave 21ft Toy Hauler) a few months back. We are getting ready for a hunting trip coming up in late November. We figured we would buy one (of a potential future tandem) 2000Watt generator setup to see how things go. I figured the one would do just fine this time of year since there will be no use of the AC unit. In fact we aren't too sure we will ever have a need to use the AC with the type of camping we do. But nonetheless if we need more in the future the option is there to easily expand.
All that being said I have heard great things about both the Honda and Yamaha units. People LOVE and seem to be diehard for the Hondas.. It's my understanding they've been around quite a bit longer than the Yamahas so that's understandable. But, I also had a hard time finding many negative comments about the Yamahas. Not only have a I been a Yamaha person for years now, I also liked the features of the Yamaha a bit more. So that's what I opted for. Seemingly you can't go wrong with either one.

Anyhoo...Anyone foresee any issues with running the single 2000 watt unit? It will be used to run everything except the AC unit. Any input will be helpful! We are complete travel trailer newbs!

You should be good to go with the Yami 2000. Just remember about power management. If you have a 1500 watt space heater going, then you don't want to try the microwave. I big draw item at a time, or several low draw items are OK.

Size for size, I think the Yamahas are just a quiet as the Hondas. The Honda 2000s seem to be a bit quieter than my EF2400is, but my Yami is quieter than a Honda 3000.

And then there was the guy with a construction generator last weekend......that puppy sounded loud even at a couple of hundred feet away......geez.

I have a pair of those that I bought from these folks. Very quite, start easy and they don't burn a lot of gas unless your running the A/C. Also light enough that they won't kill your back moving them around.

You have to request a price quote via email, but it is worth the trouble. In Aug I paid 1874.00 for there EF2000iS Combo which includes 2 of the EF2000iS generators and the Parallel Power Cable.

Yamaha makes excellent product. Even though all of my small engine stuff is Honda, I would have no problem buying Yamaha. Love my Yamaha motorcycle. Go for it.

Don't you just love that? Wake the dead generators. It's even better when they start one and then leave the campground for a few hours; shutting it off when they get back. I always lock my camper door because I'm afraid of Zombies! (Wake the dead; get it?)

Love my Yami. With Eco off, I can run the AC, lights and TV just fine. Can run easily all nite on one tank of fuel. You'll love your too.

Thanks for the input guys! I'm pretty excited to get it. Something about any type of motorized equipment that makes me happy

I'll be sure to manage the power the best I can. We are more the cook in/over the campfire type of people. So I don't foresee the microwave being used a whole lot. At least not until we have kids! Basically the trailer and heater will primarily be used for sleeping at night. Most of the other time will be spent outside around the fire and in the field trying to bag a big buck!
I have also ordered a full set of LED replacement bulbs to help alleviate battery draw and generator load.

Good move! We have done the same thing. Big power savings; especially as it gets later in the year and you use your lights more.

The Yammer will also be nice if DW wants to use a hair dryer in the morning.

During extended dry camping stays, we typically run the genny about 30 minutes in the morning during breakfast and about 60 minutes during dinner. Seems to keep us adequately topped off for days. Exception: If it gets really cold and the furnace needs to run; then we need a little more time on the genny in the morning. Usually by the time it is really cold, there are very few campers around.

To minimize impact on other campers, we often camp on the outer circle so that we can point the exhaust out and away from everyone; and we try to manage length of time and time of day. I really don't want to hear the darn thing either! 100 feet away, you cannot hear our genny.

I've also seen people build little "boxes" for their genny that bounce the sound out into the woods and away from the campground. It works. Have to confess I've not taken that step yet though.

That should be expected with a 3000 watt. He was saying he can do it with his 2000 watt with eco off. Thats more impressive than being able to do it with a 3000 with eco on.

I dont think noise consideration for other campers will be a big concern. Most of our camping is done with no neighbors. We may however use the occasional campground once in a while so it will be nice having a nicer, quiet genny.

I just hope it gets here soon so I can play with it! My order status at wise sales still shows "on hold" when I check my account.

It advertises the same yamaha engine and the link shows that they are similar in sound levels. I'm looking to get one and try it out. I have a 5500w beast that I really don't want to listen to.

Be careful with "similar". The DB scale is logrithmic. So approximately every 3DB DOUBLES the sound level; e.g. going from 53 DB to 56 DB. Way bigger difference than anyone thinks because it is not a linear scale.

We have a 19' forest river roo. We then bought a 2000 Honda series generator on Craig's list (used 4 times when bought) that was three years old. We camped in western Michigan last weekend (30 degrees at its lowest) using the generator. With the fuel tank at appx 1 gallon in size it ran for appx 11 hours with the furnace on. In the morning we ran the coffee maker and microwave. The coffee maker pulled more on the generator than the furnace did. I did my research on both but like the fact that you can link two Honda generators to get more output if necessary. The Yamaha might be able to do this, but the fuel consumption and quietness of the Honda generator sold me on the first pull (to start it)!
