Newbie RV’r Help

There's a good chance your outlets are all on the same breaker depending on how many you have. Do your best to limit your same circuit load with the heater running. If there is a microwave , hot plate, or the like on the same circuit for example, they will not run together. Would have to turn off the heater to use the appliance then turn back on when finished. A computer with the heater is probably ok, computers don't draw too much. Coffee maker could be iffy.

Just a different one. If it overloads you will trip a circuit breaker. Just unplug and reseet the breaker. Right now I have a Delgonght DiGI Oil Filled Heater plugged into an outlet below my bed (which is a slide). And I'm running my desktop computer from an outlet in the dinette area.

Some folks plug their space heater into an extension cord, run it through the slide, and plug it into the 15 amp outlet on the power post. Then it's totally independent of the RV's electrical system.

This is the best way to do this... if you don't have a slide then thru the door or window would work best, with a folded towel or foam to seal the gap.

This is only a good idea if you aren't already using the pedestal's 15A plug(s) to power a heated hose and maybe some heat tape on the outside water and sewer hookups, or a heater in the basement to protect the plumbing.

And if it has a 15amp plug at all! Twice now, recently, I've been at places that don't have them.

We do have one slide, but what do you mean by run it through it?

Through the seal area around the slide.

Often time in the corners, the slide seals overlap and a cord can be snaked through to the inside without affecting the seal operation. Depending on slide design, you may have to insert the extension cord through the seal just before the slide comes in contact with the trailer side wall. Once inserted, continue opening the slide the entire way for the seal to make good contact while assuring the cord is not being pinched. If you look at the lower corners of your slide seals you will see what is being talked about.

Solar panels are 12 volt and charge batteries only. Outlets are 120 volts. Time to do a search and read. Look in the library also.

Yup!

In my six months of full-time travel around several western states* I ran across a lot of RV parks that didn't have the extra 15-amp plugs.

And a lot of them that only had a 30-amp or 50-amp plug...not both.

My 5'ver is 30-amp, so I definately have a 50-30-amp dogbone...

You have received a lot of good advise so far from forum members. As I read through the thread, I kept thinking how great it would be if you knew someone who is well versed on all things RV. Maybe they could spend a part of a day with you going over all of the things mentioned (and other items as well). A picture is worth a thousand words, video is even better, and hands on is best. So much of what has been said would be clear in short order if someone could walk you through it. If you're near North Central Ohio, I would be happy to do this. Maybe someone close to you would offer. If not, it seems to me it would be worth a few dollars to have a mobile RV technician walk you through all of your vehicle systems.

What is this level ground you speak of? LOL

In many cases you will need leveling blocks to get level front to back or side to side or both. You should have chocks for any unlevel situation, or if you have to park on even a small hill while shopping or dining, or in an emergency stop situation, or just get in the habit of using them at every campsite.

We got our TT last spring. Two things I can say for sure is 1) this forum can save ALOT of headaches, 2) take several long weekends at relatively local campgrounds to figure what you personally need. You will find there are the “sky is falling everything to the extreme” posters on one end and the “meh” posters on the other. Read all the posts and figure what makes sense for you, but always ask questions. We have a Vibe 288RLS (30a) and use two heaters in colder weather, we can run one but not both. On this one I did do the more is better and put in a second 15a service specifically for the second heater, and installed my own 15a breaker, for a few hours work and a few dollars it was worth the peace of mind. Bought an entrance receptacle on Amazon and added a residential breaker inside. Did it all under $100
