Newbie wants to know the great campgrounds

We will be picking up our first camper in a couple weeks. I'm wanting to find the best and most beautiful campgrounds in our country. I live in Indiana but being teachers, we have the summer to travel all over. What are your favorites? Thanks for your help.

We love Mama Gertie's Hideaway in Swannanoa, N.C. In the mountains near Asheville. They clean every site - right down to the sewer cap - every time someone leaves. They also have new premium "view" sites on a mountaintop that rival any scenic overlook you've ever pulled into.

Don't know if you're interested in a trip out west but we have some of the most scenic landscapes, National Parks and Monuments in the country. We are putting together an itinerary starting the week after Memorial Day. Roughly ten days starting with the Grand Canyon, Antelope Canyon, Monument Valley, Natural Bridges and ending up in Capitol Reef. July will have on a trip to Crater Lake, OR, then to the coast staying at Tillicum right on the beach, Pacific City then on to Portland to catch up with the family for a three family caravan down to Central Oregon. Sisters, Mt Bachelor, Sun River etc.
We have not yet made the opportunity happen to visit the eastern half of the country, but if you'd like some ideas for a western tour let us know. We'd be happy to help.

That looks suspiciously like Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada. There is a Canadian flag behind those canoes which are the same as those you can hire. What you cannot see is the hotel which would be much further to the right.
Btw, the Lake Louise campsite isn't near the lake either. It's quite a distance away, even by car.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I will definitely check them all out. That is a gorgeous picture; I would love to go there too. We eventually will go to every state plus Canada and Mexico but if I had to narrow it down now, we are thinking about Colorado and South Dakota this summer and Tennessee or North Carolina in the fall.

North Carolina: mountains on one end, ocean on the other. Lots of history as one of the original 13 colonies. Glad to hear you might visit us. Y'all come!

Grabbed the wrong file. Hutch is absolutely correct with the shot being Lake Louise. It is in the west, just not our (USA) west.

OP said they were possibly coming through Estes Park. St. Malo chapel (Allens Park) is right close to Estes. You can Google for the exact highway 7 mile marker info.

Any direction you Turn in the USA there is (Beautiful N/Parks and Campgrounds)! Being a Teacher that will give you plenty to tell your Students when you return for the start of school! Share what you see! Youroo!!

There are many good ones mentioned here so far, but if you're in IN and want to stay a bit closer, try Holiday Park in the Traverse City area. Be sure to ask for their older wooded circle areas. Right on the south side of Silver Lake (with their own private beach), only about 5 miles south of downtown TC and the Grand Traverse Bay. Has all the neat stuff the area has to offer (foodie town, dunes, Lake Michigan, scenery, lighthouses, wineries galore, bike trails on the Leelenau Penninsula, beautiful fall colors etc.) we love the area and will be there again for this Memorial Day weekend. Let us know what your interests are. Sightseeing, hiking, fishing, golf, kayaking, etc., that may narrow the suggestions a little.

Our favorite campground is Corinth situated in the NW corner of Alabama. It is near the town of Double Springs in the Bankhead National Forest. it is on Smith Lake and there is ample boating, biking and hiking.
Hiking the in Sipsey wilderness is outstanding. There are even two nice trails on the property, one with two waterfalls.
It is kept immaculately by the operator Reserve America.
There are interesting sites around this property. Two natural bridges, waterfalls like the Caney Creek falls, and a unique place called Dismalites.
Reserve ahead but select the spot you like most that's available when you arrive. They do not reserve all spaces.

You CANNOT beat Michigan, especially the UP. Yes, I know there are many places to go but if you like kayaking/canoeing, hiking, mountain biking trails, lighthouses, fishing, ice-fishing, waterfalls, antiquing, boating, lighthouses, shipwrecks, camping, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, golfing, birdwatching, wildlife observation, historical sites/buildings, 4-wheeling, fall color tours, cherry festivals, apple cider outings, National Forests, Wine tasting, cheese tasting, National Lake-shore, Sand Dunes, Hunting, and much more. Our favorite is any campground in the UP's Hiawatha National Forest. Pete's Lake or Bay Furnace Campground near Munising, MI. Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore nearby. Anytime, any season, it's there for you. Whew, be sure to narrow it down and go for it!

If you ever thought about going to Northern Wisconsin in the hot part of the summer, there's Camp Holiday in Boulder Junction, Lynn Ann's Campground in St. Germain (both of those have fantastic rec trails nearby for cycling), and Maple Heights Campground in Lakewood, WI (more to the Eastern part of the state). Lake of the Woods near Waupaca, WI is also lovely and there's great road cycling near there if you're into it; also lots of ATVing at Maple Heights and near LOTW. For breathtaking views, Sky High Campground between Portage and Baraboo is handier to the southern part of the state and very nice, too. We just got back from a trip around Texas and would highly recommend Blanco State Park. It is close to San Marcos, New Braunsfel, Luling & Lockhart. Beautiful shaded park with lots of room between coaches. Very clean and nice facilities.
The other park we really enjoyed was in Port Aransas - "On the Beach" RV Resort. It takes about 2 minutes to walk from your RV to the beach. Very clean & well maintained. Also very clean bath houses.

Welcome to the RV life! My wife and I bought our first RV just 4 years ago and have enjoyed it ever since. We've been on the road full-time for 9-months now (started Aug 2014).

Great campgrounds we've found:

Camp Florida RV Resort - Lake Placid FL
(good cable and sometimes good internet)
Gulf State Park - Gulf Shores, AL
(absolutely no cable TV nor internet on the grounds)
Elite Resorts - Salt Springs FL
(no cable TV unless you get it yourself, internet is available in the lodge)
Santa Rosa RV Resort - Navarre FL
(cable and internet)
KOA's are generally pretty good...but usually somewhat cramped (you might be close to your neighbor)
Neshonoc Lakeside - West Salem WI
