No budget- no National Parks!!

Last time we were out was June!

Next weekend DW has been able to cobble together 6 days in a row off!
Woo Hoo!!
Now Hold on thar.... said in my best Quickdraw McGraw voice!

We want to go to (in order of preference)
Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area
or
Red River Gorge National Geological Area
or
Mammoth Cave NP

Unless I'm mistaken ALL will immediately close if congress can't
get a budget passed by Monday night??
Am I right???

PLEASE-- this is NOT a request to start a Congress bashing thread.
We don't allow those and I don't want to start one!

BUT am I right??
All of the above won't be available to us if there's no budget again??

I'm afraid to even make a reservation because I fear getting
a refund could be difficult or impossible.......

ARGH!! Just venting....... and something for you to consider if
you're heading out to any park with "National" in the name.

Yes, the parks would close. But only if they didnt find a work around to keep them open. Since they make $ on the parks, I'd guess they'd find a way to keep the gates open.

DW works for the Dept of Interior...ALL parks will close-period.
If shutdown occurs only essential staff will be available on properties (LEO's & Park Managers only) all functions will cease due to staffing sent home for the duration of the shutdown...ridiculous!

Greetings!

I knew I was treading on very thin ice by starting this thread but
I wanted to know for myself as well as warn others that camping plans
at National CGs will be impacted if the "budget money" runs out.

That's ALL.

We've got rules about staying friendly around here and as much as I'd
like to bash some responsible parties for being so irresponsible, I won't.

We're talking about camping- camp grounds and whether certain ones
will be open or not.

Thanks for understanding and helping keep the peace around here!

Best thing to do is call your CG and ask them.
I'm calling the Forest Office tomorrow but I'm pretty sure I already know
the answer.

So what happens to the people that are there now?
Booted or allowed to stay for what they paid for?

Closed is closed. Period.
I'm almost certain they will be told to leave.
They're literally gonna lock the gates and go home themselves.
They are getting laid off too! (They being rangers and park personnel.)

There are several types of Corps of Engineer Campgrounds. The ones that have services and fee will be closed. The ones that have no services or people collecting fees will be open for boon docking.

Sorry folks but due to high volume of posts that insist on bashing
the govt (whether they deserve it or not....)
I'm locking this thread.

We got our answers anyway and thanks to all who posted!
