I think if you research it, you will find Isuzu has been building diesel engines [and tanks] since pre-WWII. After about 80 years of building their motors, I think they have a substantial lead over all "American" built units.
I own my first Duramax/Allison [70,000+miles] and can't believe I didn't do it earlier. I've also owned Ford and Dodge and Nissan and only had major problems with one of them. The Ford 6.0 lived at the dealership, not in my driveway.
OBTW, do you lock your hitch when it is hooked up? I keep a padlock on mine whether it is loose or hooked up.

I agree with Cajun Po-boy....get a 1 ton SRW. My 2012 Dodge has no problems at all pulling anything. Even had to pull my son and his 5th wheel out of his storage field earlier this summer because his Chevy did not have the torque to get out of the soft ground. All my other vehicles are Gm's, but when it comes to truck, Dodge is the only way to go.....

the problem i see with ford and chevy, is they are gas engines converted to diesel and won't stand the compression for long

The Powerstroke 6.7 is a Diesel designed in North America, not a Import like Duramax is all I need to know. It has been around for a couple years and I have not heard of many blowing up!

So sorry to hear of your misfortune! Have you considered looking to find a rental tv for the weekend? You might find something - anything to get you there & back. Try asking around at a local rv dealership. Maybe they have some ideas. Hate to lose your camping weekend too!

All the trucks are good if set up correctly. The one that amazes me the most is the 3.5 liter ecoboost with the max tow package. It tows with no effort because it has a flat torque curve just like a diesel. The problem with the 5.3, the Hemi or Fords own 5.0 is the V8 has peak torque at a high rpm. when you tow and hit hills or mountains it is going to downshift to find that torque peak. The ecoboost has well over 400 lbs ft of torque from 1500 rpm's to 5,000 rpms on a flat not a curve. Big difference.

You guys hoping he get this thing back are insane!!!! If someone ever steals one of my vehicles I hope and pray I never see it again. That thing will be a complete wreck when you get it back and you have no idea how or through what it has been driven. Not to mention you will have had nasty stinking low-life thieves sitting in it. My advice is to find your new TV now, go camping, and worry about the settlement later. If they find the old one, get rid of it and take the loss and move on.

Agreed 100%, I enjoyed what I had and made a change to F 250 Powerstroke because of future plans and a great deal!

As for a new truck, I really like what Dodge is doing with the 2016 Cummings/Aisin drivetrain. It's a pretty beastly setup!

Like others, if this is going to be your truck until it falls apart, consider getting a 1 ton. In fact, take a hard look (and test drive) a dually. The Laramie Longhorn we test drove rode as smooth as a 1/2 ton. We were really amazed! The only downside is it IS a big beast - no front row parking for you - it's off to the back 40 truck parking lot with this ride

Of course, would you expect anything else from a truck that can yank 31K while carrying 8K cargo?
