Smile No more CH751 locks on my Wildcat

I now have one key for all locks except the slam door locks and my understanding is they will need to be replaced in entirety to get them keyed like the Global cam locks.

New cam locks (G code) were ordered from RVlocksandmore.com keyed to the same numeric HIF code as the door key. Problem was I failed to read the bold print “WE CANNOT MATCH FIC CODES” so one key did not work both door and cam locks as I expected. However both keys are double cut and were the exact cut except for one additional cut on the Global key. So I experimented and filed the additional cut from the Global key to ONE (1) side of the HIF door key and now one key works the door or cam locks depending on how the key is inserted. Success.

I was wondering if you could clarify.

You have a Global Link G3xx keyed door on your RV. Then you bought cam locks from RVLocksandmore.com that were keyed to G3xx. But, you couldn't use the provided keys to operate both your cam locks and your RV door locks?

Isn't that the entire point of this ... to key the cam locks for the storage covers to the same as your door?

Otherwise, how do you even keep the keys straight? They'd both look identical and both be marked with the G3xx code. You'd have to compare the teeth to know which to use in which lock?

I'm fairly confused by this.

Thanks.

CH751 lock replacement

The door locks are HIF keyed HF3XX not Global G3XX. When I ordered the Global locks to replace the CH751 locks I ordered them with the same numeric code as the HF3XX key (G3XX) but failed to read on their website that they cannot match HIF codes. However the two key codes with the same numeric code I ordered are exactly the same except for one small additional cut on the G3XX where the HF3XX is uncut. Since they are both double sided keys designed to work either way they are inserted, I experiment and added the additional cut on one side of a HF3XX to exactly match the G3XX key. I now have a hybrid key that by inserting the key one way opens the HIF door locks and the opposite way opens the Global locks that replaced the CH751 locks. That gives me one (1) hybrid key HF3XX/G3XX (and lots of extra G3XX keys) that works both lock types depending on how it is inserted. Works great for me. I still need one other key for the baggage slam locks which I plan to replace with the same G3XX code locks. Unfortunately the entire lock assembly must be replaced so that comes as funds allow.
Hope this is not still confusing.

Thanks for the clarification. I think I got lost on the HF part. I didn't comprehend that one. My keys are Global Link -- purple with "Global Link" and then a "G 3xx" on it. Just like shown below. So, I guess I wouldn't have the same issue that you had. Thanks.

Yes, I have purchased locks from the CH751 company. They were nice but expensive. My camper compartments were broke into before last Labor Day weekend. These locks were in the center of the cargo door. Thumb latches on the ends. The thief opened the thumb latches and used something to pry the corners up. Must have used their hands to pull until that center lock broke. The bolt in the center is not hardened so they snapped easily. I know the 751 locks have a bad rap and that you can purchase a key online for under a few dollars. Look at the door itself. It doesn't seem to be strong at all. If a thief wants in then they will destroy the door to gain access. My suggestion and what I did is. Empty the compartments after every trip. If a thief can buy a cheap lock key easily let him. He will open your compartment door with it and see it's empty and move on. No damage done. So save your money. Let me guess, another rv owner opened your compartment door with his key. That's not who you have to worry about stealing your stuff. My two cents

No break in, goal is to replace all cheap CH751 locks & have one key. I added 3 locks to the large front door, no more thumb locks. Thieves will break in regardless.

I also replaced all of the thumb locks with the standard 751 locks. Not a total deterrent but it might cause a thief to just move on.
