North & South Carolina in April

We are headed to the the beaches of North and South Carolina in April but we also would like to do some hiking closer to the mountains and we are looking for suggestions. We prefer state parks but want electricity. We have never been to this part of the country so we would appreciate comments re: parkss, roads, weather, etc. Is this too early to head toward the mountains?
Thanks in advance.

The beach will still be chilly down here. Mountains will be chilly but should be ok. What area of mountains are you thinking? It is several hours difference from beach to mountains here.

Stone Mountain State Park | NC State Parks
This is a great option! We loved it there. I also recommend Jordan Lake near Apex, NC I believe, nice private sites.

Agree with Stone Mountain. You can camp throughout the year down here. I'm camping at the beach right now and will be in the mountains in a couple of weeks.
I hear the state parks near Myrtle Beach are good but haven't stayed at them.

Thanks for the ideas. We are coming from and to Minnesota and will be probably be going as far south as Savannah GA. so we will be crossing over the mountains probably in N. Carolina on the way back home but we can be flexible.
A suggested route for crossing the mountains from East to West would be helpful.
Thanks

If you've never been to the area, you MUST drive the section of the Blue Ridge Parkway from Ashville west to Cherokee.

Also, don't miss Hunting Island State Park near Beaufort, SC. Reservations are tough, but maybe you can get in. Get on the beach side loop if you can. Although, this time of year, the bugs might be fewer...and it is beautiful in the back area.

If you stay in Savannah, check out Skidaway State Park.

Huntington beach state park, south of myrtle beach is great. Right across the road is Brooke Green gardens which should be beautiful at that time of year. Murrells inlet is nwarby with tons of doning options and live local bands

Trust me...if you're coming from Minnesota April/May anywhere in the south is going to fell like early summer in Minnesota. Plan to travel through the Blue Ridge Mnts on your way to the beaches and check out the Rhododendrons in bloom.
Enjoy your trip.

Happy Trails
