North Carolina (Boone) wild fires

We are planning to camp in Boone over thanksgiving but wondering what the air quality is like. My daughter has rather severe asthma but I can't find anything online. If you've been near boone in the last week pleas let me know how bad the smoke is. Camp fires are banned so that's a big letdown already.

Thanks

Go to the national weather service, and specifically query the site you are looking at. They will have a very good idea of what the smoke will be like. In lieu of that, or in addition go to NWCG.gov and you can drill down to the area (geographic area, and weather) you are looking at and they can give you a good idea. Realize, wildfire doesn't obey Anyone's rules, so it's a best guess/computer guess as to it. They're generally fairly accurate however.

I can tell you we are a couple hours to the southeast, pretty smokey today, the worst it's been so far.

You might want to check out this thread:

nc state parks

Here is the link to some closed NC state parks. I am too far East to be of any help.

If you still want to come to NC, there is a decent CG near me that is within 30 min of Chapel Hill and Durham and 45-50 min from Raleigh. They are open year round. Jones Station RV Park. You could also check out Mayberry Campground in Mount Airy NC (near pilot mountain), or misty mountain camp resort in Greenwood VA (just off the Blue Ridge Pkwy).

What do you do when the people in the adjacent site light a campfire?

Just a "tad" bit of difference between this - The Worst Wildfire In North Carolina's History and a campfire.

Smoke from a wildfire can be debilitating even if you don't have asthma and is quite miserable to live/camp in

My Daughter is at APP in school, I just texted her, and she said as of right now they aren't really noticing any smoke in Boone.

We are 5 miles from the Lake Lure fire. Its bad here with smoke and ash.
But I would think that Boone should be OK, for now anyway, the winds are taking the smoke generally SE

Went to the NC state park site. They have banned open fires statewide and charcoal fires west of I-95. We're heading to Medoc Mountain for Thanksgiving and I hope the charcoal ban is over by then. If it isn't I need to rethink the dinner that was going to be cooked in our dutch ovens as we don't have a range in our trailer.

We are in Charolette, NC and today's (11/16) air quality is reported at very dangerous/unhealthy. Westerly breeze brought it in today and is supposed to get considerably worse. We are heading to the coast tomorrow several days earlier than planned.

WRAL was saying this morning that the front coming through this weekend should help clear the smoke.

It was smoky all the way from Greensboro to Raleigh today. Coworkers husband got sent home early today from the western side of Greensboro. Mebane and Hillsborough were pretty thick and hazy with a definite wood burning smell.
