North Rim Grand Canyon

I am looking for a campground on the north rim of the grand canyon. I know that the Grand Canyon Lodge is there, but i can seem to find a campground around there, does anybody know anything about the north rim

The only campground at the North Rim that takes Rv's is the North Rim Campground. Its dry camping only. Size limits also. Nice camping area. There are a couple of NFS campgrounds, 1 in Kaibab/Jacob Lake & Kiabab/DeMotte. Season usually starts about May 15 and ends around Oct 15. Sites go fast so suggest you reserve early for the Grand Canyon campground. A private campground (Kaibab Camper village) is at Jacob lake about 45 miles from the canyon. Other than that you can stay in Page AZ or Kanab, UT but don't recommend as a long drive.

There are 3 CGs within an easy drive of the North Rim Entrance.
2 are national forest CGs that have modern clean vault toilets
and a water spigot and one is a private "full service" cg.
The NF CGs do not have electric either.
We stayed in one for a week in June. It was great but dusty due
to the drive thrus of folks in big rigs looking for hookups.

You're not thinking of going now are you??
The CGs will close due to snow closing the road anytime
after October. CALL FIRST before venturing to that
area this time of year.

We are going next year june, driving down from Calgary Alberta, i am just plotting out a route now, i only have three weeks to travel with, I am hoping to hit the vesa masa and zoin and yellowstone, and i am trying to avoid saltlake city altogether, the highway looks why to busy for me

I know that you are looking on the north rim. But we came in on the south at Williams AZ and stayed at Canyon gateway RV park. it was a great park and the town of Williams is part of old highway 66. Its about 59 miles from Grand Canyon entrance and is a passport america discount park. We stayed there a couple of days.

We plan on staying on the south side first for about 3 or 4 days then driving up to the north rim, that Kaibab camper village. is it close to Jacob Lake because i see that there is a campground called Jacob Lake campground. I am a little confused here. and my 2010 Campbook is not helping much

about these camp grounds. Look down page for info on each.

FYI there is no Jacob lake. It's a Jacob puddle literally.
Kaibab camper village is just a couple miles closer to the park
than Jacob lake National Forest camp ground. We visited them
one day to see about dumping our tanks and shower facilities.
They wanted way too much money for either since we were not
staying there.
If I had it to do over I'd either get reservations in the
National Park North rim campground or try first come first
served at the Demotte campground in the National Forest.
If it is full you can almost always find a spot in the Jacob
lake camp ground (just don't look for the lake!)
We stayed at Jacob lake CG in June 2010 and it was
not more than 1/2 full at any time.

This is the high country and we did not miss our AC at all.
Even if the day temp got up to 80s F it was not humid and
as soon as the sun went down it cooled right off. Just a fantastic
fan to pull a breeze for the first couple hours at night was plenty.
We have 2 12v batteries and stayed there 6 nights and did
not need our generator for a recharge.

If you are visiting Zion (One of my favorite parks ever)
you might consider staying in a private CG in or near
Kanab UT. You can do Zion in a day or 2. Kanab is
worth a visit. They are "western movie" Hollywood.
MANY John Wayne and other westerns were filmed in the
area. They have a movie museum which is free and
worth a couple hours. If you really want a kick, visit
the visitor center in Kanab. If you are lucky Jackie Hamblin Rife
will be on duty. She was a movie stunt
woman, and actress stand in and is very much fun
to talk to. Get an autographed photo of her while you're there!
Just down the street from the visitor center is
historic Parry Lodge- harbors memories of visits by John Wayne,
Glen Ford, Charlton Heston, Barbara Stanwyck, Ava Gardner, and many other film legends.
The walls are lined with signed photos and you can
stick your hand in the swimming pool built for John Wayne.

Just a suggestion or 2....... I know you have limited
time and each person is unique in their interests.
This is just something you can do in an afternoon
after you return from Zion or possibly on your 2nd day
in the area.

Thanks guys, yea i found the puddle,, Its just something i am looking into at the moment, The DW wants campgrounds with shore power, so thats half the battle there and don't really want to spend outrages prices for an over night stay either

Well you bought a "self contained" trailer for a reason.
Once in a while it's fun to actually use that stuff.
Shore power is over rated in the high country.
It's an awesome area to visit!!!

I love the North Rim, and always stay at the NPS campground in the Park. No hookups, but quiet, private and spacious, and all the sites are within an easy walk of the rim, and a short hiking trail will take you to the Lodge and the main canyon viewpoints. If you reserve quickly, you can get a site within view of a beautiful side canyon (They are called Prime sites, are very popular, and cost a small premium).

We just made reservations for our second trip to the North rim. It's a smaller park but we really like it.
