Not 1....but 2 blowouts on our way home this past Sunday

We were on our way home from one last weekend hoorah before the kids start school and had two blowouts on our way home. I was able to change the first out with our spare while on the side of the interstate but when the 2nd blew we had to wait on a 24hr tire service guy to change it. I am just thankful he was able to get it done fairly quickly and that no one was hurt. I am not real sure as to what caused the blowouts. They were both 2 yr old Goodyear Marathons and I had checked the pressure just before heading home. We were traveling between 60-65 when both blew. I am pretty sure that I will be going back with some type of LT tire when repaired. Now we are waiting on insurance to get it estimated so we can get it fixed.

Are you sure you were not (Sideswiped)? That is a LOT of $$$ Damage! Youroo!! BOTH SIDES! I have seen LESS damage at NASCAR after hitting the wall out of Turn# 4!

Good grief! Sorry to hear about your experience, but glad nobody was hurt.

We are about to replace our tires (only a year old!) because the right side ones are worn to the tread indicators after only about 11,000 miles. I have been doing a TON of research and since our rig weighs about 14,000 loaded and is on 7K axles with wheels rated for 3,960lbs @ 110psi, we've decided to move away from our Westlake E rated ST tires to Sailun S637 G rated tires.

We figured the our tire options are (not counting mounting, balance and disposal):

Goodyear G614, G rated, 14 ply all steel carcass (about $330 per tire)

Michelin XPS RIB, E rated, 10 ply all steel carcass (about $270 per tire)

Sailun S637, G rated, 14 ply all steel carcass (about $155 per tire)

Did you ever get your fifth wheel and truck weighted at a Cat Scale when fully loaded?

Yes. As pictured in my sig, we weighed 24,784lbs. That was on a CAT scale and after filling up with fuel.

Were you running any type of TPMS on your rig at the time?

WOW sorry to see this, glad you are all ok. I've used GY Marathon on a lot of my trailers with no issues but that was earlier in my years. I worry about all the ST tires on the market today with all company's trying to cut cost in so many ways. Also most tires are made in China these days no matter what manufacture brand tire.
Hope all your RV repairs go well.
With your best guess were you overloaded for those tires? I know FR and other RV manuf. seem to borderline the weight to tire match up it seems to save a dollar.
