Not going South so....

I really don’t want to, but it’s time to winterize. We’ve already had a couple of mornings of temperatures below freezing and one morning it dropped to 27 degrees. We’re currently at Rend Lake for a couple of days and then we’ll winterize before we head back.

At least we get one last trip in with some nice fall colors still in the trees.

I am getting nervous about some of the morning temperatures so we have one more trip scheduled this weekend and that will be it. It has been a great year though.

370 Lakeside was going to be my choice for winterizing if the government shutdown still hadn’t ended and this COE park was closed.

Be sure to keep an eye out for the prehistoric monsters that live around the lake. The Grass Dragon is very sneaky and the Pterodactyl is a very silent flyer.

Ah! you lucky guys! I've been winterized for a couple of weeks now. Temps here forecast for tonight 14 degrees . We are starting to dream of places much warmer than here!

Aaaaargh!

The temperature has warmed up into the the low 70's and we are being invaded by hordes Lady bugs. They're crawling all over the Silverback and every time we open the door some fly in. No question I'll be setting off more than one bug fogger inside the trailer this year.

The central vacuum system has come in handy. We've been using it to suck lady bugs off the ceiling. Jeez I've never seen so many.

Bob you should catch them and package them, organic gardeners pay big money, well maybe not big money, however they do pay for them in the spring to release in their gardens as natural pest control. I'll buy some but you'll have to deliver in the spring.

You might be right Don, maybe tomorrow I'll go out and start packaging up the little critters for next spring. NOT!
I'm thinking next year I'll take the camper to 370 Lakeside to winterize. That park is so new it doesn't have any trees yet. No trees = fewer insects.

Except for the lady bugs, this really is a great COE campground. Currently there a some flocks of American White Pelicans that have stopped here on their migration route. It's not often we see White Pelicans here in the MO/IL area.

Our trailer is now winterized and back at the storage lot bringing an end to our travel and camping season. Today I’ll set off a bug fogger to kill any Box Elder and Lady bugs that might be planning on wintering inside the trailer.

What a great travel season it has been. We attended four FROG rallies, Washington D.C., Branson, Goshen, and Colorado Springs and met a lot of great folks. We also spent a total of 18 days visiting the beautiful state of Wyoming. Most of those days were in Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks.

It was an interesting camping season for us too. We were evicted from COE campgrounds on three different occasions, twice because of rising lake water and once due to the government shutdown. As I type this I just realized that we didn’t spend one day in a Missouri state park this season. That’s very unusual for us.

We’re already looking forward to our RV travel for next year. At the end of February we’ll hitch up and head south to Gulf Shores, AL to spend March on the beaches of the Gulf of Mexico.

LOL, it took me a bit to figure that out. It does kinda look like one of those commercials. Next time I’m going to have a couple of Corona beers in the picture so it looks like a different type of commercial.

That state park in Gulf Shores is beautiful. I'm just a bit jealous that you'll be leaving this month. We’ll be staying at Island Retreat RV park on hwy 180. Be safe in your travels.

Not going South - golden years

AH! The golden years, do what you want when you want! We were tentatively planning on going to Texas in the New Year to get away from the cold for awhile. However it seemed like my body preferred to go to the hospital instead. I ended up with a condition known as atrial fibrillation not to unique or life threatening, however it has major impact on getting medical insurance coverage for out of country. Looks like we will have to wait till next year to be able to go south for the winter. Golden Years my a--. Safe travels.

That one went over my head at first, also! Too funny!

Oakman, sounds like you had a great camping year. That COE looks great!

Oh my goodness! Prayers for your recovery. Texas loves "Winter Texans".
