Novice Camper Question

Hello everyone,

My wife and I recently purchased a A122s A-frame popup and we love it. However we have had some issues with the camper and I cannot seem to figure them out. If anyone can answers these questions I would appreciate it.
1. We tried using the furnace and although it was working, the a/c unit ran the entire time and canceled out the heat we were looking for. Is it possible to run just the furnace?
2. Is it possible to run the furnace without power? We have been asked to go primitive camping, w/o power, and I would like to figure this out before we go, as we have a two year-old. I would appreciate any help.

Howdy Thomas and welcome aboard.

1. Does your A-frame have a digital thermostat? If so, sometimes the answer can be as simple as the fan auto setting.

2. Yes, the furnace run's off of 12 volt DC (battery) and propane. You can use it without 120 volt AC power, but it is a good energy hog. You will need a way to recharge your battery(s) if you use it much.

Although I don't have personal experience with these type heaters, I have read where several members love them and use them in place of their furnace when boondocking.

The fan setting was likely on either hi or low. You need it on auto otherwise the fan in the A/C unit will run when the heat is on.

Set your digital thermostat to Fan, and you will see 3 options: auto, lo and hi. If set to lo or hi, the fan will come on with the furnace. If set to auto, it will not. Just set it to auto. I don't think your A/C came on with the furnace, just the fan came on.

Every Fall with out fail DW and I will be camping and I forget to set my thermostat to auto and the heater doesn't go on during the overnight. Makes for good cuddling though!

Hello Everyone,

I wanted to show you that I do not have an "auto" function. My choices are Fan, Cool, Furnace, Heat Pump. The fan blows constantly no matter which one I choose, and if I turn it off, the furnace turns off. So this is my dilemma; how to I keep the furnace on and the constant stream cold air from the a/c unit off?

I have attached pictures of the thermostat, a/c unit from which the air is a constant flow and the furnace unit.

Here is the manual for your thermostat. I think if you choose "Fan" then use the "Mode" button it will allow you to change the setting.

Press the mode button to select FAN then + or - to change it from LO HI or AU

AU is auto which will determine what it needs by whether you have it set on COOL for AC or FURNACE for heat

AC will have cool air come from ceiling vents and FURNACE will have heat from floor vents
