Ocean Canyon properties

I received a message from these people informing me that since I am loyal Camping World customers I get a complimentary 4 day/3night stay.

Does anyone have any experience with this organization?

Thanks

Like time share promotions get ready for a high pressure sales pitch for a lifetime membership. Keep you hands in you pockets to save money. Do a Google search for scams. Not necessarily a scam and may be what you want but be cautious, there is no free ride.
I had a friend that took their vacations to Florida for a quite a few years working on the free stays. They never bought anything. When you say NO you get the bums rush out of there.

You have to know your tolerance level for refusal and tolerance for in your face sales. Not as ez as you may think. Also, think about what you are potentially going to agree to. Is it even worth your time?
We got hooked into a Disney deal years ago. It was 4 hours of intense sales. We now own 6 timeshares, 2 condos and a lifetime of Disney Cruises personally escorted by Mickey Mouse! ok, NOT!
BUT, the sales pitch was intense. They have these things down so you feel like crap saying no.
Just realize nothing is FREE. You are paying in stress.

Yeah, we got one recently also. Sat thru the sales pitch several years ago when it was focused on condo timeshares. Told em I only travel with an RV. Now I guess they have that covered too as the new invite is to one of several RV "resorts" in the south. We're going to the one in Milwood Lake Arkansas because its near. Have no intentions of buying, we just don't trvel much that way. Usually on the road from place to place. If I remember correctly, the price came down from around $7000 to near $3000 last time, even tho I never said it was about the money. They do not like no.

Despite their 6 calls a day, I have yet to call them back. I am an assistant principal at an alternative campus and discipline center, I am used to high pressure in my face situations. If I didn't have to drive to Texarkana, I might go and have fun with them. The $75 gift card to camping world will not cover the gas to drive out there.

I do appreciate everyone's advice.

Thanks

Ha. Know what you mean. After 33 years in law enforcement, I've no problem dealing with pushy folks either. We're going for the free 3 nights, free golf and just for a weekend get away in September. I'll try to remember to report back so others can have an update on the situation.

Went to Camping World to buy some items for our new TT and now I'm getting the calls! Multiple calls!!

I can tell you if you're contacted by them for a free stay at their newest property Compton Ridge, in Branson MO I'd look closely. Its about 10 minutes from our home. Unimpressive. What I can say is its close to Silver Dollar City, so if you want to go to the park it might be for you. But even if it were $18 a night like at the Army Corps parks on the Lake I wouldn't stay there. Oh, and it's not on the Lake, and it's $35 - $45 a night! Might be some folks cup of tea, but not my idea of camping.

Heck, our home's on the Lake I have a 30AMP RV service in the driveway and there's a fire ring lakeside, so "camp driveway" ain't too bad. Perhaps I can get $50 a night!! Caveat Emptor

Ocean Canyon purchased it and is now running operations.

We've stayed at Compton a few times when we were tent camping and wanted to be off the road (unlike the SDC campground across the street). I don't know if I'd camp there with my RV as the sites looked interesting to get into unless you got a pull thru. Sad to hear they are time share pushers now.

Supposedly, the Texas resort is really nice.
Here is the bottom line: They want you to buy a $13,750 "lifetime" membership to your local resort. In exchange for that (and a $475/year maintenance fee) you also get free camping at the Coast to Coast camping network plus free camping at The other Ocean Canyon resorts.

Jury is still out for us - we had a bad experience at our local OC Property. I was a unhappy camper (the sales team is VERY high pressure and demands you to make a decision in a couple hours which we found totally unacceptable). We went back to our camper and I posted my feelings to the OC corporate web site. To their credit, the VP of sales called us within 2 hours of our complaint and offered us another weekend at the Styx River Resort - supposedly the premier resort in Alabama. We may take them up and go back in Oct to check this resort out.

On Monday the *President/CEO* called me personally, based on my posts to this thread. He was apologetic and said he hoped we would take them up on their offer of Styx River. Obviously, they are VERY sensitive to what bad PR/experiences will do to their time share on a popular forum like FRF.

I have done a few searches and found that there are OC members trying to sell memberships for as little as $5,000 (just google OC memberships)

IMHO, if you are a full timer, and plan to be RVing for, say, 10 years this would be a no-brainer, even a non-fulltimer would break even after 616 nights ($13,750+(475*10[years]) = $18,500) (616 nights = 62 nights a year for 10 years at a average of $30/night for a campground)

Another variable in the calculus is you can join 50% off clubs like Passport America for a $399 life membership and pay @ $15 a night for camping, reducing your expenses significantly. KOA also has a program and there are others out there as well. Now all of a sudden the calculus is 1,232 nights (assuming you use Passport America exclusively)

I have a colleague at work that is a member and she loves it. She only uses the local resort, and is in a camping club with several friends and they plan their weekends accordingly. If you are close to a resort, the plan may work for you and maximize your membership.

My .02’, YMMV and there are LOTS of opinions about OC out there.

I'd have asked him who appointed him as "big brother" and WHY was he monitoring what I post, expressing MY OPINION, on a forum. I'd have then told him he just blew any shot he ever had of me buying what he's selling.

HOW the heck did he track you to this forum? HOW did he connect your user name to your real identity (thereby enabling him to "call you personally").

Something isn't passing the smell test, unless OC sent that nasty CRS virus to me via email.

I am guessing that they correlated HSV (Abbreviation for Huntsville, AL) Bama (Doh) Bob with me. I DID find it interesting that they troll the forums but honestly Weezer, did not consider your angle until you brought it up!

Surely there's more than one Bob in Huntsville?

Like I said this may be some folks cup of tea. Don't want to be judgmental. Just saying there are lots of options for camping here in the Ozarks and this would not top my list.
