If you watch the movie Long Long Trailer,with Lucille
Ball, they have what you are talking about attached to the trailer hitch.

That's it, except I don't believe it hooked directly to the receiver. The ball socket was on its own hinged frame that dropped over the ball. If you go to the website it shows this as being used in conjunction with a 5th wheel to keep the TV from sagging. The one I saw was mounted to the trailer and carried the full tongue weight. Same concept though. Yea I haven't watched the Long Long Trailer in quite a few years. Very funny and I can relate to most of it, except the part when she is trying to fix dinner while they're moving.
